So Jim Cameron announces officially he's been working a year on a new Terminator movie with the fabulous Dark Knight Trilogy writer David S. Goyer. After Goyer helped two other failing franchises to finally become great and the original writer of Terminator... we have a reason to be optimistic.

If you're not already excited, how about Linda Hamilton returning as Sarah Conor?!!! Linda refused all previous scripts (apart from Salvation) because the scripts were shite.

Still not convinced? Deadpool director will be directing the movie.

I myself have been working on stories. My main concentration was working on new interesting characters rather than the big fail of reinventing them. JC said the baton will be passed to a new 18 year old female character. Which has me wondering who can that be actress wise?

Genysis was a major disappointment... But this will kick ass! ESPECIALLY if it's R rated.

Are you all excited? Or like many others pretend T2 was the end?

I don't get Hollywood's obsession with flogging dead horses.

Also shouldn't Cameron be more worried about getting Avatar 2 ready? he's been taking forever with it and now it was recently said they plan to do 4 (!) sequels. But Avatar 2 won't even be ready before December 2020.

I'd ignore everything he says about the Terminator franchise...I doubt he has the time and energy to do anything with it as Avatar sequels apparently have $1billion budget and these clearly take priority over everything else. So I doubt his involvement with T6 goes beyond superficial.

He's been working on the Terminator movie for 1 year and Avatar 2 was written YEARS ago. He's filming Avatar 2 right now.

I know myself what was wrong with the other movies and it wasn't JC. This time it's different, and it's not because JC is writing and producing. ;)

It's not unusual to work on two things at once. Chris Nolan was working on Man of Steel while filming Dark Knight Rises. I recall the word is multitasking and JC is no retard. He has a not bad record in movies ;)

As for Chris Nolan's multitasking:

TDKR 250 million production budget → 1.1 billion
MoS. 200 million production budget → 670 million

So it can be done ;)

James Cameron, Tim Miller, David S. Goyer is a little different to Alan Taylor, McG and Jonathan Mustow.

It's a dream team. + Linda Hamilton and new characters to refresh the franchise. How can a Terminator fan not be excited?

Essentially, this is the point of the reinvention.
Nobody complains of the 25th James Bond or whatever Star Wars with the same Captain Kerk.

They will never top the Terminator 2 movie. I havent had any high expectations, i saw the T3 when it came out and thought it was bad and i havent bothered to watch the other ones since then. Given the public feedback they have all kind of sucked so i dont even want to waste my time. The problem here is that Terminator 2 was groundbreaking in movie making and they cant really top that these days cause scifi visuals are used in almost all movies these days. So there isnt that wow factor.

World is full of dumb people. I think most of the bond movies suck tbh (im talking about the modern ones). Casino Royale was great but the following movies all have had some weaknesses. I think the whole lets cast actor X (Bardem, Waltz) as the baddie is also overrated factor. I watched both of these movies online out of interest during the last year or two and i thought they both overacted and actually brought the films down with their clownish performances. Casino Royale had a perfect blend of style, action, plot and performances. There is of course also the factor of how good of a bond Daniel Craig is. He doesnt really have the style of a Connery or even Brosnan (and Brosnan movies got worse with each release). Actually now that i check the ratings, the general public also seems to think that for example Spectre kind of sucked or was meh (6.8 rating is nothing to shout about).

I also remember James Cameron telling in the media when the last/previous Terminator movie was about to be released how it would be good, that he gave his blessing for it (doesnt he own the rights or smth of the characters?). I havent watched it (Genisys) but judging by ratings and feedback that film was meh. Ironically it even has lower score on imdb than the one with the Christian Bale rant.

Hollywood is lacking of great original ideas, im tired and dont even bother watching all these new remakes. They have ruined the Bourne series as well with latest edition. One of the problems is also that they cast the IT girl in these type of movies and their performances are actually letting the movie down. I thought Vikander was extremely weak in that Jason Bourne film, average performance which really kind of stood out from the rest (obviously we arent talking here about Hamlet but weak or overacted performance can also take down overall well made film of its genre). They casted that Emilia Clarke girl in the last Terminator film and judging by feedback she wasnt good either.

Never been into Star Wars so cant comment. Saw the old classics years ago but it just isnt my cup of tea. I prefer different type of space movies, either 2001, The Moon, Solaris (the original) or based on real life events like Apollo 13.

He gets the rights back in 2018. But because Skydance fvcked up Genysis they abandoned the genysis sequel where Arnie would be a T-1000 :)

JC always came out in support of an Arnie Terminator movie. He feels he owes him a debt for T1 and making his name in movies. Similar to Tarantino giving Andy Vajna support because he gave QT his shot with Reservoir Dogs.

Andy Vajna owned the Terminator rights for the first 3 movies (JC sold them to make the movie). Vajna lost them for Salvation but he said on Hungarian TV he wanted to buy back the rights and bring Arnie back. It didn't work out though.

Anyway, whatever flicks your switch. I'm excited about the people creating this new movie. I can't wait to see Linda Hamilton back as the legendry Sarah Conor and curious about what the new main characters will bring.

The guys who messed up the franchise had no track-record. This time we can't have better people working on it. If you're not interested, then fine.

You mean the CGI? If you do that's interesting because there are only 2-3 good CG shots in T2. The rest of the CG is very weak. Talking about the T-1000 here. Him going through the bars, spilling into the helicopter are the only wow factor shots I remember. We can add the floor morphing into the security guard as well. But I can't think of anything else.

For me T2 is all about the practical effects. They look real! and CG nowadays looks shit. I hate it with a passion. I also like how the move used twins in the movie. Lucky break that Linda Hamilton has a twin and was used for 3-4 scenes.

But anyway, why does it have to top T2? Why can't it be a film that's a 7/10?

If films always had to be 9/10 or not be made. There wouldn't be many films to watch!

And now Bob Patrik says he wants back in! After several time refusing to do so!

Many people have said he can come back as a prof who originally made the Terminators. So I doubt that will happen. Someone will come up with something better with the all-star creative line up!

You dont get my point. The CGI was groundbreaking at the time. It doesnt matter how it looks now. It was something which changed the movie making as it being the first movie they used this technology. Of course it might look weird now. I havent seen it in a long time tbh. We are talking about a 26 years old film here.

From wikipedia:
The film's visual effects saw breakthroughs in computer-generated imagery, including the first use of natural human motion for a computer-generated character and the first partially computer-generated main character.[5] Terminator 2 was a critical and commercial success and influenced popular culture, especially the use of visual effects in films.[6] It received many accolades, including four Academy Awards for Best Sound Editing, Best Sound Mixing, Best Makeup, and Best Visual Effects

That's actually a myth.

It was amazing practical effects that probably shocked you or anyone. It would be easier if you can tell me which shots you and others thought was groundbreaking. I could tell you instantly how they got that shot.

It's amazing that most of the T-1000 is practical. The morphing is obviously CG as it when he's running in liquid form. But that wasn't new in this film.

If you read it carefully it says the tech was first used for a) a human motion (liquid form of T-1000) b) 1st partially cg created main character.

That doesn't mean the tech hasn't been used before. Just the first time it was used for a certain purpose.

and may I add. If the practical effects are as good in the new film. People would go crazy about it now.
