Albion have completed their first January signing, with midfielder Jan
Kozak joining on loan until the end of the season with a view to a
permanent move.

The giant Artmedia Bratislava playmaker impressed Bryan Robson during a
week's trial earlier this month and has put pen to paper after passing a
Hawthorns medical.

The club are now awaiting international clearance to field the
25-year-old Slovakia international, which the Football Association has
applied for.

Boss Robson said: "I was really impressed with Jan when I saw his
performances in the Champions League against Porto and Rangers.

"We had him watched and then brought him over for a few days to take a
look at him in training. Jan is an attacking central midfielder. He is
very skillful and can create and score goals. Hopefully, he will bring
those attributes into the club."

Kozak joined Artmedia in 2003 and scored seven times in 34 appearances
last term as they won the Superliga crown for the first time in their
108-year history.

The 6ft 4in (sic??) ace also helped the Slovakian league leaders join
Liverpool in becoming the first-ever sides to advance from the Champions
League first qualifying round into the group stages earlier this season.

Kozak caught the eye in Artmedia's memorable qualifying victories over
Celtic and Partizan Belgrade before scoring at Porto and at home to
Rangers in Group H. They eventually finished third behind Inter Milan
and the Glasgow giants.

He started his career at Slovakian outfit Kosice in 1997 before moving
to Belgian top-flight side Lokeren for a season and then Czech giants
Slavia Prague for two years.

Kozak boasts an impressive strike ratio of one goal in three games this
term, having notched six times in 17 appearances.

He is the third Slovakian international to have signed for Albion in the
past five years, following in the footsteps of crowd favourite Igor
Balis and loan signing Stan Varga.
