The transfer market has not finished but man, its the first year I remember where Serie A seems to have strengthened more than the EPL for instance.
Key Losses: Cavani and Jovetic
Key Gains: Gomez, Higuain, Strootman, Tevez, Llorente and Balotelli (if you count the winter market)
Cast your mind back a year ago and Serie A lost Tiago Silva, Ibrahimovic, Nesta, Lavezzi and didn't really gain anyone of great significance (I guess Pogba was a bit of a revelation).
You look at the starting line-ups of the Champions league contenders:
JUVE (352): Buffon, Barzagli, Bonucci, Chiellini, Lichsteiner, Vidal, Pirlo, Marchisio, LLORENTE, TEVEZ. Key subs: OGBONNA, Pogba, Vucinic
NAPOLI (4231): REINA, Maggio, Cannavaro, ALBIOL, Armero, Behrami, Dzemaili, CALLEJON, Hamsik, MARTENS, HIGUAIN. Key Subs: Britos, Insigne, Pandev, Inler
MILAN (4312): Abbiatti, Abate, Zapata, Mexes, De Ciglio, POLI, Montolivo, De Jong, Boateng, El Shaarawy, Balotelli. Key Subs: SAPONARA, Robinho, Pazzini
They look pretty competitive.
Now for the Europa League:
FIORENTINA (433): Neto, Tomovic, Rodriguez, Savic, Pasqual, AMBROSINI, Pizzaro, Borja Valero, Cuadrado, GOMEZ, Ljajic. Key Subs: Aquilani, JOACQUIN, ILICIC, ROSSI
LAZIO (3421): Marchetti, NOVARETTI, Biava, Radu, Konko, BIGLIA, Ladesma, Lulic, Candreva, Hernanes, Klose.
UDINESE (3412): KELAVA, Danilo, Heurtaux, Domizzi, Basta, Pereyra, Allan, Gabriel Silva, LAZZAARI, Muriel, Di Natale.
Meanwhile Inter and Roma will be interesting competitors given that they are not involved in European competition and Inter have a decent coach with clear ideas.
Something to look forward to this year - should be a very intense season for the key places.
