Is Football better than it was 5 years ago.I think not mean look at the 2003 ucl final 4.Juve,Milan,Madrid and Inter all those teams on paper would beat the last 4 teams in ucl in 2008.Mean Ronaldo would not even get ahead of Figo or Zidane. Also Valencia and Arsenal were stronger than they are now as well.So question is Football better now than 5 years ago.

the gap between the big and medium teams only got bigger and quality drop, watch Real Madrid playing in Spain and winning twice in a row with a soft team is testament to that, 5 years ago Depor or Valencia would beat this current champion.

Real has somehow discovered how to defeat those teams, may be this is the reason why they can beat a team like Atletico almost every season, home and away, sometimes with big margins of 3 or 4.
But they still don't know how to beat a team like Deportivo, which happened to be a weak team lately.

Football overall is definitely on the decline, it not the 'game of the people" anymore, at least in Europe anyway, with all the talent, much of it wasted, being monopolized by a handful of rich clubs.

It is actually sickening to see how far traditionally powerful clubs have sunk and I am starting to lose some interest in football myself.

There's greed and unbridled capitalism for you.

I miss the 90's that was the real football. :(
and there were more `superstar` or rather world class players in the game......hardly any these days IMO at least in comparison.

In the 90`s we had Baggio, Romario, Schmeichal, Matthaus, Batistuta, Klinsmann, Hagi, Redondo , Savicevic, Stoitchkov, Laudrup, Sammer, Maldini (ok, we still have him :D ) etc etc

Not only great players but many of them `personalities`......can only think of Mourinho these days and he`s a coach

5 years ago, Brasil were:
WC champs
Copa America Champs
U20 Champs
U17 Champs
Ronaldo was the best player in the world.....

so for football's sake- it might be better, but not for Brasil :(

mwahaha

It is kinda sad to think though, 5 years ago we had Ronaldo, Zidane, Figo, Henry, even Romario all playing excellent football...now we have Messi and Cronaldo and who?
