"He was spotted by Pepe Samitier. Legend has it that Kubala was blind drunk when the ex-Barcelona star turned agent put him on a train from Madrid to Barcelona to initiate his transfer in 1950. Though Kubala sobered up enough to sign on and make his debut in April that year - the first of 329 appearances yielding 256 goals"

I will ask about it is true here:

Yes, it is true. He even supposedly said to Samitier "but the sign says we're going to Barcelona." Samitier told him not to worry. One thing though that you should note is that Kubala "sobered up" at the negotiating table. He pulled out a draft copy of the agreement he had with Real Madrid and said that's what he wanted. He became our highest paid player then.

Motta23, you should buy the book Barça: A People's Passion by Jimmy Burns. It's a good read and covers more thoroughly some of the things you've asked about.

Wow, so Kubala was supposed to sign for Real Madrid, but we scammed him and he signed for Barcelona? :D
