Ireland climb FIFA World Rankings

Brian Kerr's men up two spots in latest FIFA rankings
Monday, December 20 2004 12:03

Brian Kerr's Irish team have climbed two places to twelfth in the latest FIFA World Rankings after a successful end to their 2004 season.

Ireland climbed ahead of Denmark and Turkey thanks to a string of impressive result that see them lead their World Cup 2006 qualifying group.

The top three in the FIFA World Rankings remained unchanged with Brazil leading the way from France and Argentina.

England have slipped one place to 9th spot while Scotland are left languishing in 86th, behind the likes of Burkina Faso, Syria and United Arab Emirates.

Scotland endured a disastrous 2004 under the stewardship of Berti Vogts, who resigned at the start of November.

Wales comfortably ran out 4-0 winners at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff last February before Romania won 2-1 at Hampden Park the following month in another friendly.

This ranking is testament to the fabulous job that Brian Kerr has done since taking charge. I believe that the only way we are going is up and i'm confident we can break into the top 10 sometime next year. We may not have a team full of galacticos but we have a team spirit and battling qualities that most teams would kill for.
