Joy for Gloria

Romania's CF Gloria Bistrita 1922 also have good reason to be proud of their work after they secured a 2-0 win at home against US Luxembourg to leave them in a good position to qualify for the second round of the tournament in the return leg at the Achille-Hammarel stadium. Two goals in the first 25 minutes set the Romanian side on their way before defender Dinu Sanmartean's dismissal after 60 minutes stifled their attacking flow.

Sunday 23rd June 2002

Gloria Bistrita take a two-goal lead into their Intertoto Cup first-round second leg against US Luxembourg, despite a nervy performance on Sunday which saw star man Lucian Sinmartean sent off on the hour for violent conduct.

The opening goal came on 14 minutes when US midfielder Szobotic turned Sinmartean's free-kick into his own net. And it was 2-0 to the Romanians on 24 minutes after Constantin Birsan finished off a fine flowing move.

Gloria, led by new coach Remus Vlad following the resignation of Constantin Cirstea owing to bad health, had chances to extend their lead through Cristian Turcu and Birsan, but US goalkeeper Betic pulled off several flying saves.

" Romanian side CF Gloria Bistrita 1922 also qualified after a 0-0 draw away to US Luxembourg was enough to notch a 2-0 aggregate victory. "

0-0???

I piss and throw up on them!!! :yuck: :yuck: :yuck:

they played with the reserves, as the important players got an extended holiday from Gloria's owner. It's mainly Gloria's reserves that won 2-0 in Romania. Plus, in Luxemburg, there wasn't Sanmartean because he received a Red card in the first leg.

That's still unexcusable. Imagine Romania's best 11 players getting injured before the match vs. Luxembourg away and us drawing 0-0 with our reserves vs. Luxembourg! Would that be excusable? I don't think so! Same thing here. Gloria have proved once again how much sh!t is into Divizia A.

Regards,
David

Not necessarly. Gloria is not Romania's NT. If you consider them to be as good, then you'd be insulting out NT. :fero: :)

If they had to win and didn't, then I'd understand your reaction. But when only a tie was good, your reaction is exagerated.

Just for the record, Gloria had about 4 shoots in the goal posts and another player red-carded in the 64th minute (Turcu, an attacker)! Of course, it would've been great if they scored...

(from Prosport)

Today, Saturday, Gloria Bistrita plays in the 2nd qualifying round of the Intertoto cup. Their opponent is Teuta Durres, an Albanian team. This time, Gloria took the game much more seriously by calling most of the regular players for this game. If it goes through, Gloria will play next the French side Lille.

On another note, today the club will be exactly 80 years old (it was founded on July 05, 1922).

Goria played a very defensive game by using a 5-4-1 system. This is what Remus Vlad, Gloria's coach, said: " We tried to save our energies in this game because we cared more about the result. It was more important for the club to qualify further, not to perform in a nice manner". (Gazeta Sporturilor)

this is the line-up from Evenimentul Zilei (www.expres.ro) : Cimpeanu - Miszti (min. 78 Luca), Costin, V. Popa, A. Rus, Bucuroaia - Minteuan, Cioloboc, Coroian (min. 74 Velcea), L. Sinmartean (min. 28 Negrean) - Birsan

If Gloria will defeat Lille, they will play probably against Aston Villa since this latter plays against FC Zurich (Switzerland).

Gloria lost 2-0. They didn't play badly nor Lille played well but Gloria's defense messed up in two ocasions and the French side took advantage of it.

In the next leg, Sanmartean should be there (he was injured for this game)

Lille's coach sais that Gloria was better than Bruges (Dinamo's opponents in CL)
