Inter Rocked By Match Fixing Scandal - Report
Another match-fixing scandal could be about to rock Italian football once again...

Italian champions Inter are alleged to have thrown away matches towards the end of last season in order to increase Scudetto odds, according to a damning report released by the Italian Public Ministry and published in Friday's edition of Il Giornale.

The Milan-based paper leads with the headline: "Public Ministry: Inter Threw Away Games To Help Facilitate Gambling Bets."

The report claims the Nerazzurri, who eventually won the title on the last day of the season, drew and lost games in order to increase gambling odds regarding last season's Scudetto race.

In Particular, the report focuses on games from week 24 onwards where a number of betting agencies stopped taking bets on Inter winning the Scudetto.

The enquiry was carried out by Police at the request of the Public Ministry who are investigating allegations regarding a series of phone calls between the then Inter coach Roberto Mancini and a Mafia associate called Domenico Brescia.

Brescia is an Inter fan and he already faced the Italian justice system regarding allegations of drug dealing.

The report also highlights a number of different incidents during games and alleges that Zlatan Ibrahimovic's return from injury was postponed on purpose.

In addition, there are claims that Julio Cruz was told to leave the penalty in the penultimate game of the season against Siena to Marco Materazzi who missed, and the game ended 2-2. This meant the gap between Inter and Roma on the final day of the season was just one point.

Ibrahimovic returned from injury on the final day of the season to help Inter win against Parma and lift the Scudetto.

These claims are likely to rock the Nerazzurri as another scandal hits the Italian game.

They're saying that Cruz must be an excellent actor because it certainly looked like he wanted to take that penalty. And Materazzi actually shoved him out of the way, which made Cruz really pissed. More so after Matrix missed.

As for Ibra's injury, the article says that he had recovered but Inter had postponed his return. If that's true, they should still have played him at the start of the Parma match as opposed to bringing him on at the last possible moment - like they knew he'd win it in such a short time. I mean, we all know he's Ibra...but would any club with so much at stake make such a gamble? The other thing is that the injury problems carried on all the way into Euro 2008, which flies in the face of the assertion that he was fit and ready a long time before.

And then there's the Siena match, where Manninger saved a penalty from Materazzi, so was the Austrian taking part in the betting plot, too? moreover, I do recall Inter pushing forward with venom when the scoreline was 2-2, in search of a winner. Might I also add that Materazzi hit the crossbar, so I gather he must be really good to do so on purpose. roud: Like that C Ronaldo nike ad.

On a more serious note, People should know that Il Giornale is owned by non other than Silvio Berlusconi.

You got to love the timing though: a couple of days after Inter open a gap in the lead. Just like the bs story about Mourinho which surfaced a couple of days prior to the imperative match against Samp.

It's simple, us being on top is giving many people sleepless nights, so they'll resort to whatever filthy method to bring us down.

Non è stata aperta alcun inchiesta dalla Procura di Milano sull' andamento dell'ultimo campionato di calcio 2007/2008 e in particolare sull'Inter; la precisazione arriva, all'Ansa, da fonti della Procura di Milano, che ribadiscono che non c'è alcuna inchiesta. Secondo quanto si è appreso, il rapporto di polizia sarebbe allegato ad un'altra indagine, quella sulla fuga di notizie relative all'inchiesta sul sarto Brescia, ma non è stato utilizzato per aprire un'inchiesta autonoma sull'ultimo campionato.

L’ombra delle scommesse sull’ultimo scudetto dell’Inter. In un rapporto inviato dalla polizia giudiziaria alla Procura della Repubblica di Milano, e da questa depositato agli atti, viene ricostruito per filo e per segno l’andamento delle ultime giornate del campionato di serie A 2008-2009. Si avanzano esplicite riserve sulla trasparenza delle scelte tecniche dell’Inter in quelle fatidiche giornate, quando uno scudetto ormai praticamente vinto rischiò di sfuggire dalle mani dei nerazzurri. Si critica la scelta di non schierare Mario Balotelli e Zlatan Ibrahimovic nelle partite cruciali. E si dice, nero su bianco, che il giro delle scommesse venne avvantaggiato dalle scelte della società milanese.

Il rapporto è stato ordinato alla polizia giudiziaria dal sostituto procuratore Stefano Civardi, che indaga sulla fuga di notizie che nel maggio scorso portò sulle pagine di Giornale e Corriere della sera le telefonate tra il pregiudicato Domenico Brescia - che di lì a pochi giorni sarebbe stato arrestato per traffico di droga - e alcuni uomini di punta della squadra Campione d’Italia: tra questi, l’allenatore Roberto Mancini, il capitano Javier Zanetti, il nazionale Marco Materazzi.

Ma l’indagine non si è fermata alla caccia dei presunti responsabili della fuga di notizie. Con delega alla polizia, il pubblico ministero ha dato ordine di ricostruire cosa accadde nelle ultime giornate del campionato scorso. Con quali obiettivi? Con quali risultati? L’unica certezza è che gli accertamenti compiuti dalla polizia giudiziaria non sono stati ritenuti del tutto irrilevanti, tanto che il rapporto è stato accluso agli atti conclusivi dell’inchiesta depositati nelle scorse settimane.

Il rapporto di tre pagine è basato prevalentemente su «fonti aperte», cioè pubbliche. È centrato sulla corsa a due tra Inter e Roma per la conquista dello scudetto, sulle oscillazioni del distacco tra le due formazioni e sull’impatto che queste ebbero sul business delle scommesse. Il rapporto analizza come gli allibratori - che a partire dalla metà del girone di ritorno sembravano dare per cosa fatta lo scudetto all’Inter, tanto da non accettare più puntate sulla formazione di Mancini - riaprano le quotazioni quando il distacco si riduce, arrivando persino a fare per favorita la Roma.

Dalla lettura del rapporto si intuisce che l’ipotesi investigativa - mai esplicitata a chiare lettere, ma inequivocabile nella sostanza - è che l’Inter abbia rallentato deliberatamente la sua corsa al titolo, e che tra i motivi di questo comportamento autolesionista possano esserci rapporti di singoli tesserati nerazzurri con il mondo delle scommesse. E non è un caso che a essere chiamati in causa con nome e cognome siano due tesserati dell’Inter che risultano in contatto telefonico con il pregiudicato Brescia. Il tecnico Roberto Mancini («la strana scelta di Mancini») e il difensore centrale Materazzi, che nell’incontro col Siena impedisce al rigorista titolare Julio Cruz di calciare un penalty, incaricandosi dell’esecuzione. E sbagliando.

È chiaro che non basta così poco per accusare Mancini, Materazzi o nessun altro di essersi messi al soldo degli allibratori. E infatti - almeno per quanto risulta ufficialmente - non vi sono procedimenti aperti a carico di nessuno. Ma del rapporto impressiona la minuzia con cui si addentra nelle scelte tecniche della panchina nerazzurra. E come le inserisce in una vicenda apparentemente inspiegabile, in cui in una situazione di classifica «con un distacco totale di 10 punti, tale da far accreditare la vittoria del campionato sicura all’Inter da parte di tutti gli organi di stampa e media radiotelevisivi» fa irruzione un brusco cambiamento di scenario in cui «vi è la sensazione che la squadra dell’Inter una volta raggiunto un certo vantaggio abbia tenuto un comportamento atto a programmare un lento riavvicinamento degli avversari».
