Robinho is congratulated by Kaka after scoring Brazil's second against Chile

Brazil maintained their record of being the only nation to qualify for every World Cup finals tournament by booking their place in Germany next year with a thrilling 5-0 win over Chile.

The Brazilians were at their brilliant best as they got the qualification party started early by netting four times within the opening half-hour.

Defender Juan's glancing header put Brazil ahead from an 11th-minute corner and that was soon followed by a superb flowing move involving Ze Roberto, Adriano, Kaka and then Ronaldo, whose clever lay-off allowed the oncoming Robinho to tap home the second goal.

Adriano then scored two in two minutes, first a left-footed drive that angled across goal and went in off the far post and then a near-post header from a corner, before Brazil eased up.

Adriano made it a memorable afternoon on a personal level too by completing his hat-trick in stoppage time with another left-footed strike.

For the first time, the reigning World Cup winners did not qualify for the next tournament automatically, but Brazil have had little trouble getting through the South American qualifying group.

With two qualifiers remaining they have followed Argentina, the group leaders, in booking their place in Germany.

"We are very happy with the qualification to the World Cup and I'm very satisfied with the performance of the team," said Brazilian coach Carlos Alberto Parreira.

"I expected a complicated game, but we scored quickly and with those goals we decided the game."

Then we are going to have JCamilo and El Fenomeno come and say that Ronaldo is better.

Pulsar i think Politician was referring to Ronaldo not Adriano. Yes and those Brazilian fans do need to see the light, Adriano is going to be a legend in Brazil after he retires, much greater than Ronaldo.

Adriano fires Brazil to Finals Monday 5 September, 2005

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Inter striker Adriano netted a hat-trick in the 5-0 win over Chile on Sunday as Brazil qualified for the 2006 World Cup Finals.

The Nerazzurri ace was the star of the show as the world champions booked their place in Germany.

The Selecao opened the scoring on 12 minutes when Juan headed home a corner from Milan’s Kaka.

Brazil doubled their lead just 10 minutes later thanks to Real Madrid new boy Robinho, who finished off a splendid move involving Adriano, Kaka and Ronaldo.

Adriano eventually rippled the net himself in the 27th minute, before adding a couple more in the 29th and 92nd minute.

MILAN - Adriano wasn't the only Nerazzurri player to score a hat-trick in World Cup qualifying over the weekend. Obafemi Martins scored three (one a penalty) as Nigeria beat Algeria 5-2 in Group 4 of African World Cup qualifying. The win sees Oba's national side join Algeria on top of the group.
