I hope that we can make few but good signings in this summer campaign. We definitely need some new defenders and midfielders and maybe one striker.

Here is my favourite line-up if we can get the players that I want:

------------------------TOLDO----------------------------

J.ZANETTI-------CORDOBA----MATERAZZI--------COCO

ERIBERTO-------MAKELELE--C.ZANETTI------DONI/KEWELL

----------------------RONALDO---VIERI---------------------

Nesta is probably tooooo expensive.................

Inter outline transfer strategy Sunday 12 May, 2002

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

President Massimo Moratti has explained their intentions for reinforcements over the summer months.

The two met for the first time since the 4-2 defeat at Lazio cost them the Scudetto seven days ago and outlined their strategy for the transfer market.

“I found Cuper very motivated and determined,” explained Moratti. “He gives off a formidable feeling of success in the offing. He is a great professional and always puts himself in the firing line, but the thought of him leaving the club was never an option. It won’t happen.”

“Inevitably we spoke about what happened in Rome,” confessed the patron, “to try and work out what happened. We then looked towards the future with optimism as we enter the Serie A race and the Champions’ League.”

A list of potential new players was drawn up, although Moratti insists that “we are only in the exploratory stage right now.”

“It is clear that we must reinforce the team. That is obvious to everyone. Cuper has preferences for some players, but as a club man he also realises that we have certain limitations and needs. The Coach has been careful not to unravel the good work we have done up until now.”

“The objective,” continued Moratti, “is to create a balanced side. It will be based on the team that did so well at the start of the season, as although there were less star players they notched up results with greater consistency. There will be sales and new arrivals, this is certain.”

Inter have been known for tearing up the team that has failed and starting from scratch, but Moratti assures that although this is a tempting idea he will not be swayed into another complete overhaul.

“Judging by the final match of the season we’d have to change 25 players,” snapped the oil baron. “But it is only right to remember what we said about Inter before that day in Rome.”

“We must look at the team responsibly and try to change as little as possible, as this line-up did earn 69 points, while we must be careful not to spend too much money. The most consistent players will be counted on from this point onwards.”

These statements do not bode well for the moody Alvaro Recoba and injury prone stars Ronaldo and Christian Vieri.

With reports that Real Madrid have offered £31m for the 29-year-old Italian, this may be the year that Moratti accepts.

The main adjustments need to be made on the left of defence and midfield, an area that has been Inter’s true weak point this season.

Atalanta’s Luciano Zauri is their main target for this section, although other options are Real Madrid’s Roberto Carlos, Piacenza revelation Vittorio Tosto or Leeds United star Ian Harte.

The Nerazzurri have long been linked with the Irishman and are set to make a bid. Leeds teammate Harry Kewell has also been suggested as a possible reinforcement.

Christian Chivu was a target, but Ajax’s asking price of £12.5m was considered exorbitant.

The left side of midfield is a perfect position for new star on the block Cristiano Doni, as Juventus and Roma hesitate to conclude a £13m deal with Atalanta.

Alternatives include Cuper favourite Vicente of Valencia, Milan’s Brazilian Serginho or Arsenal winger Silvinho.

The right wing is also in need of reinforcement and although Martin Jorgensen was thought to have a deal on paper, the Udinese midfielder appears to have lost interest.

Considering Roma’s strong interest in Adriano, Inter could hand the striker over as part of a bid for Marcos Cafu or Vincent Candela.

Eriberto was contacted in January, but the Chievo winger seems to be heading towards the Giallorossi.

Inter chase Chievo's new stars Saturday 11 May, 2002

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Inter are reconstructing their side after ending the season empty handed once more and look to follow Chievo’s example.

The Flying Donkeys took four points off the Nerazzurri during their first Serie A campaign – including a humiliating 2-1 win at the San Siro – and built impressive young players into top stars.

Reports on Tgcom suggest that Christian Manfredini, Eriberto and Massimo Marazzina are on Hector Cuper’s hitlist.

The most likely of the trio to make the transition is winger Manfredini (pictured).

The Ivory Coast born player would move to the San Siro in exchange for the other half of Bernardo Corradi’s contract.

The Italian striker is co-owned by Chievo and Inter, but would be allowed to stay in Verona for their UEFA Cup campaign.

Eriberto is closer to Roma than Inter, but Cuper hopes to swing the deal his way by offering Vratislav Gresko in exchange.

The Czech defender may not have impressed fans with his performances this season, but Chievo President Luca Campedelli is sure he can get the best out of Gresko.

Other players who could be used in swap deals with Chievo include ex-Milan winger Andres Guglielminpietro – known as Guly – and Spaniard Francisco Farinos.

Inter make Kewell bid
by Espen Andre Skjerve

Inter Milan have apparently made a bid of £18 million for Leeds winger Harry Kewell.

The Italian giants have watched the Aussie on several occasions this season, and are desperate to sign the 23-year old.

His fiancee, Emmerdale actress Cherie Murphy, told the press that Kewell is "desperate to play in Italy".
