In many big games, there are contests or battles between individual key players in each team. In many cases, the contests have a direct effect in the outcome of the game. For instance, in a Arsenal ManU game, there's always a parallel contest between Viera and Keane.

So, which battles do you think will emerge in each game? Which ones do you relish to watch, and who do you think will win in each?

let me start with the Saudi germany game:

:star: Noor Vs Ballack :star:

ho ho ho. This is going to be a great battle. The Viera of Saudi Vs Germany's finest midfielder. There going to be a few tackles and tussles in this one. But it's not just about tackles, it's who controls the midfield, as both players could do a lot of damage attacking wise if they've got the beating of the other.

Tokar Vs Bierhoff/Jancker

This is a straight forward aerial battle. Tokar is the tallest and physically the most powerful defender in Saudi, but does he have the beating of aerial experts such as Bierhoff and Jancker?

alYami/Sheehan Vs Linke/Baumann

I was originally going to write Nowotny/Woerns but they've both gotten injured. This is a battle between the pace and trickery of the forwards Vs the no nonsense resolute defending of the German duo. This battle depends on some good balls behind the defense by the Sadui midfield in order for it to materialise.

Nobody here but us crickets....

Takkar is a great young defender and i'd also like to see how he fairs against pysically imposing opposition like Bierhoff, Mboma and Quinn.

Another match will be Jeremies and Nawaf Al Temyat. We'll see if the former can handle Nawaf's creativity and pace.

In general i want to see how a depleted German defence copes with Sami, Sheehan, Al Yami and Nawaf. I think if anything, offense is Saudi's strong point and they'll play to their strengths.

Ballack Vs Al Daeya

This will be a shooting practise for ballck unless Noor and Al wakad close him down quickly.

Al Sheylia Vs Ziege
Ziege is a full back but pushes forward a lot. Al Shelia will try to stop his penetration and crosses for Janker and Beirhoff.

Suilam Vs Neuvule
Quick and tricky Neuvule will try to twist and turn Suilam. But abdullah suilam is renown for his pace and timely sliding tackle.

Salam

Salih,

Doukhi will most probably start. So I think both teams will have space on that side. As both full/wingback push forward.

Ridha Tokar is not that young, he's 26. But you're right in that he doesn't have much international experience.

Disgusting, absolutely ridicoulus. You come to the World CUp with money, and for what? You get slaughtered.

You fall down all the time, this is sick, they're the worst team in the tournament. Iran gave a muuuchhhhhhh better preformance against Germany in 98.

I think Al-Deayea against Germany will be the most interesting duel. ;)
Ridiculous performance so far, Al-Jaber is useless.

Maybe Saudi-Arabia should allow their players to get international experience by playing in foreign leagues, just a thought...

and we beat Belguim in 94, whats your fricking point?

this is not 98, or 94, this is 2002. If our team got trashed, thats our problem. It doesn't mean your team should have been here...why?

because you had the same chane to qualify and you didn't. If you want to live i your fantasy dream land that you lose because the refs, or bribes, or whatever, then do it....fact remains Iran's accomplishments in Asia don't compare to Saudi, no matter what you try to dream up.

Come back when your team make the WC ok?

Come on guys, respect where respect is due. Saudi MacDonalds Arabia qualified for the WC and have now made themselves famous, they're the superstars of 2002! What more can you ask for... stop bashing them... :(

Rafo,

Why don't you list both accomplishments of the NTs here for us to compare?

anyway, this is about Kiyan's fantasy that Iran lost to Bahrain because the ref was bribed. I know you would never make such excuses :)

It wasn't for the ref, definitely not. But in a normal situation, off-field, we'd have crashed Bahrain. But we can't condemn you for our mistakes. ;)

If you had said in WC, it would've made sense. But in Asia it's the same. We've already discussed it once.
