WALES TO APPEAL OVER UEFA DECISION

Wales have officially lodged an appeal with Uefa over their decision to reject their protest against Russia competing in Euro 2004.
The situation has arisen after it was announced that Russian midfielder Yegor Titov failed a drugs test before the first game of their play-off victory over Wales.

The Welsh FA lodged a protest over the incident but Uefa dismissed their attempts to get the result overturned at a hearing earlier this week.

Now Wales have announced they will appeal against that decision. A hearing is likely to take place within the next seven days to finally resolve the situation.

"Our officials have spent the last couple of days considering our options and we obviously feel it is worth appealing," explained FAW spokesman Ceri Stennett.

"We have always wanted to make our case at a personal hearing, and this will now happen."

Wales manager Mark Hughes - who will attend the appeal - intends to take this matter as far as he can in order to get the decision overturned.

"Uefa had the opportunity to make a stand against drug taking in our sport, and they failed to do so," said Hughes.

"We intend to take this all the way, and if we fail this time we will consider going to the European sports arbitration body.

"Logistics of ticket sales, hotels booked, draws made, should not come into it. I hope these things did not come into the thinking of the panel."

He added: "This is a moral issue. Something has happened to affect the outcome of a game, so whatever the consequences the right decision should be made."

The chances of their little kangaroo court case actually throwing
Russia out of the tournament is next to none, I never heard of a whole team being disqualified based on one player failing a drugs test.

Good thing Wales does not have the power of the English lobby.

If the English F.A. was in a similar situation now they could twist some muscle.

Wales needs to move on, forget about Euro2004 they do not deserve to be there, they lost the match in Cardiff to Russia by 0:1 full stop.
