Doesn't say anything about it, but big possibility that the driver either fell asleep or turned the ignition off to save petrol and busted his brakes. Something stupid like that..

Very sad.

Bus rides in Turkiye are like rollercoaster rides. Although the whole bus scene is MUCH MUCH better than it used to be incidents like this still happen. Unfortunately when I am in Turkiye most of my travelling is by bus. Thankfully I haven't been involved in any accidents.

The bus drivers are under tremendous pressure by the companies to make their schedules on time. This causes for sleep deprivation, road rage, and impropert passing - the main reasons why bus accidents happen in Turkiye. There are some reliable companies out there such as Kamil Koc, Ulusoy, Varan, and Uludag. They usually fine pick their drivers and have two drivers for long trips. I know that Kamil Koc has an extensive application process and they pyschologically tests their drivers before employing them. Precautions like this minimize the risk of accidents... unfortunately not all companies are the same.

Companies from central and eastern Turkiye are the ones to be afraid of. I once got on a bus that was coming from Diyarbakir and passing through Eskisehir. BIGGEST mistake of my life. I was speaking with the guy on the bus sitting next to me and he told me the bus driver did not rest since they left Diyarbakir and has been driving like a maniac. Thankfully my ride was not too long....and you can bet that I was praying the whole way to Bursa.

I have another bus story that I would like to share :D

Last time I was in Turkiye I had to take a bus from Bodrum to Eskisehir... All the flights to Ankara were booked so I had to settle for a nice 10-11 hour bus ride. So.... we are on our way to Eskisehir and about 2 hours into the ride, the bus gets a flat in the middle of no where. We find a gas station and they arrange for someone to bring a tire. An hour later these fools bring a tire but it is the wrong size. We wait another hour for them to bring the right size tire. The finally get back and while changing the tire (I don't know how) but they manage to bust the front hydraulic shock system. Now the front of the bus looks like a Cali low-rider... and you can imagine how comfortable the ride was after that. Anyways, they change the tire and we are on our way bouncing up and down. We make it to Denizli and pull into a Mercedes service area to have the problem fixed. I wasn't too hopeful because it was 3 in the morning. While the technicians were trying to fix the bus, I asked one of the mechanics where the bathroom was and he pointed towards that direction. I'm walking through an office like area to get to the rest room and see this guy at a desk on the computer. I think nothing of it and while I was walking past him I glanced at the computer screen to see a porno full screen :howler:. I guess the guy didnt notice me and got startled.... he looked at me smiled and said "ya abi kusura bakma ama... kariya bak tas gibi." I laughed and replied "dogru soyluyorsun abi... hadii sana iyi calismalar." :howler: Ahhh ... so we get back on the bus and ofcourse nothing was fixed. We bounced up and down the whole way to Eskisehir. A trip which was supposed to be 10-11 hours wound up taking 19 bouncy hours.
