Hodgson named new Emirates boss Tuesday 9 April, 2002

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Former Inter and Udinese Coach Roy Hodgson has been appointed as the new boss of the United Arab Emirates.

The English tactician has signed a two-year contract reportedly worth $2m a season.

Hodgson, who started this term at Udinese before being sacked, returns to international level after a six-year absence following his experience with Switzerland.

The Croydon-born boss is believed to have beaten Japan Coach Philippe Troussier, Bruno Metsu – who led Senegal to the World Cup – and Argentine Oscar Fullone, to the position.

Hi HiJazzey...

why?? I mean.. Hodgson isn't THAT bad a coach is he ?? :) I remember the days he got Switzerland to the WC finals in the US.. plus when he was Blackburn manager.. and if not for the off the field incidents.. Udinese were heading to a brighter ending then what we're witnessing now..

Ok.. he's not a tactical genius.. but he knows how to motivate and get the best out of average players.. seems exactly what the UAE need..
