1978: Born Leicester, January 11.
Joins youth scheme at Filbert Street as a teenager.
1995: Makes league debut for Leicester.
1996: Plays 30 league games in 1995-6 season, scoring seven times. Leicester win promotion to Premiership via play-offs.
Stars for England Under-18s in the European Championships in France alongside Michael Owen. England finish third.
1997: Part of team which wins Coca-Cola Cup final, beating Middlesbrough in a replay at Hillsborough. Ends league season with 10 goals in 35 appearances.
October - makes first England Under-21 appearance in 1-0 win over Italy in Rieti.
December - scores twice in England Under-21s' 4-2 win against Greece at Carrow Road in European Championship play-off, but England go out on away goals.
1998: Repeats performance of previous league season: 10 goals in 35 appearances.
1999: Leicester are beaten by Tottenham in Worthington Cup final. Heskey is dogged by back injury and scores six goals in 30 league appearances.
April - Makes full England debut as substitute in 1-1 draw in friendly against Hungary in Budapest.
2000: February 22 - Kevin Keegan gives him first England start in friendly against Argentina at Wembley. Match ends 0-0 but Heskey is voted man of the match.
February 27 - Wins Worthington Cup with Leicester, beating Tranmere in final.
March 9 - Liverpool agree £11million fee to take him to Anfield.
