Borussia Dortmund have got their man at last, with Midfielder Jörg Heinrich returning to his former club from Fiorentina on a three year contract. The Germans are said to have paid approximately DM12 million (€6m) for the 30 year-old.

Heinrich made the move to I Viola two years ago, when he cost the Florence side DM25 million (€12.5m). Now new Dortmund coach Matthias Sammer is expecting his signing to complete the round trip and join up with the squad for their training camp in Austria on July 5.

Heinrich played for 81 league games for Dortmund between 1996 and 1998, scoring eleven goals. Dortmund officials were reluctant to confirm Heinrich’s return yet, but manager Michael Meier admitted “that something is going on" on Monday. Negotiations between the two clubs have now been going on for a month, but look set to come to a successful conclusion.

“Now we are not that far away from an agreement that we can announce the transfer of Heinrich already," Meier said. Coach Sammer said he will release a statement regarding Heinrich today.
