Greening called into U-21 squad
Middlesbrough midfielder Jonathan Greening has won a last-minute call-up to David Platt's England Under-21 squad.
Greening has been drafted into the 22-man party for the European Championship Finals following the withdrawal of West Ham's Michael Carrick with a groin injury.
The news will come as a huge boost to the former Manchester United player, who missed Boro's FA Cup semi-final clash with Arsenal because of a hamstring injury and struggled throughout the remainder of the season with groin and calf problems.
He will join up with the rest of the party which flies out to Basel in Switzerland this afternoon ahead of Friday night's opening game against the hosts in Zurich.
Carrick's absence, coupled with that of Spurs defender Ledley King, who withdrew from the squad with an ankle injury, is a major blow for Platt, but he remains confident the men who will contest the finals have the necessary strength in depth to mount a serious challenge.
