NEW Dynamo Kiev boss Alexei Mikhailichenko has appointed former Ibrox colleague Oleg Kuznetsov as his assistant.

Mikhailichenko took over last month after the death of legendary Kiev coach Valeri Lobanovski.

He has brought in old pal Kuznetsov in an attempt to steer Dynamo to the league title next season after they narrowly lost out to Shakhtar Donetsk in both the championship and Ukranian Cup Final.

Kuznetsov had been working as a coach with Arsenal Kiev as well as helping out with the Ukranian national team.

His appointment rekindles a partnership that ironically began at Kiev and continued at Ibrox in the 1990s.

The pair played together at the Dinamo Stadium early in their careers and met up at Rangers after Graeme Souness had signed Kuznetsov in 1990 and Walter Smith followed up by recruiting Mikhailichanko in 1991.

Their finest hour in blue came at Parkhead on New Year’s Day 1994 when a double by Mikhailichenko and a stunning volley by Kuznetsov helped Rangers to a 4-2 victory over Celtic.

Both have always been held in high regard by the passionate Dynamo support and must be considered a good partnership to take the Ukranians forward.

I would just like to wish Alexei Mikhailichenko and Oleg Kuznetsov the best of luck cos they were good players for Rangers and I want to see them do well.
