The worst thing about him was that he was so slow! I still can't get the image of Torres blowing by him in our first EPL meeting with Liverpool at Anfield last season :wallbang:
something he did for 50 other defenders in europe and also against chelsea in CL semi final.....

You're knowledgeable about the game, you should know each play is never the same. That was just one clear example of how slow his first step is, no burst whatsoever. He's a good 4th CB to have around but not when he's voicing his displeasure to the media, hopefully we can get the 5M for him.

yes coz torres is exceptional, ben haim played for bolton for yrs and no one did that to him....but i guess as Lahm found out torres is quick, anyway...plus he didnt complain, he said if i knew jose would go and that idiot grump will be coach i wouldnt have signed, which every player in chelsea pretty much felt...thats all.....but i agree we have too many centre halves now UNLESS carvalho leaves.....

No he didn't, that's a bad example. Lahm just didn't deal with that play urgently enough, made an error in judgement by waiting for the keeper and not shielding Torres. So Torres just swam around him and played him like a little kid :)

tribalfootball.com - July 23, 2008

Chelsea have accepted a £4 million bid from Manchester City for defender Tal Ben Haim.

The Daily Mail says Ben Haim, who has been training on his own at the club's Cobham training ground while his teammates are on tour in China, has chosen City over Newcastle.

Ben Haim chooses City

Israel defender Tal Ben Haim has made Manchester City FC his third English club after joining the UEFA Cup hopefuls for an undisclosed fee from Chelsea FC.

Four-year deal
City confirmed that the 26-year-old has penned a four-year contract, subject to obtaining a work permit, which ends a one-season stay at Stamford Bridge following his move from Bolton Wanderers FC last summer. The former Maccabi Tel-Aviv FC centre-back becomes new manager Mark Hughes's second signing after Brazil centre-forward Jô. City entertain EB/Streymur in the second leg of their UEFA Cup first qualifying round tie on Thursday having won 2-0 in the Faroe Islands a fortnight ago.

TAL BEN-HAIM TRANSFER
Posted on: Wed 30 Jul 2008

Chelsea have today (Wednesday) agreed terms with Manchester City for the transfer of Tal Ben-Haim.

The former Bolton defender joined Chelsea in the summer of 2007 but having started in the side when John Terry and then Ricardo Carvalho were injured, another new centre-back, Alex, moved ahead of Ben-Haim in the selection order.

The Israeli played his final game in an FA Cup fifth round win over Huddersfield. In total he made 17 starts for the club and one substitute appearance in his season with us.

Chelsea would like to thank Tal for his contributions to the club and wish him all the best for the future.
