Martinique and Canada advance in Gold Cup

MIAMI (Reuters) - Martinique advanced to the quarter-finals of the CONCACAF Gold Cup with a 1-0 victory over Trinidad and Tobago at the Miami Orange Bowl Stadium.

In the day's other game, Canada advanced to the final eight despite losing 2-0 to Ecuador in a Group D match.

Martinique scored the only goal of the Group C encounter after 51 minutes when Patrick Percin's right-foot shot beat the goalkeeper from just inside the penalty area.

Canada appeared to be holding out for a 0-0 draw with Ecuador, until Alex Aguinada struck twice in the last two minutes - the second from the penalty spot - to give the group a very balanced look.

Canada, Ecuador and Haiti all finished on three points after a win and a loss apiece, with all the games finishing 2-0.

The organisers held a draw to decide which to teams would advance and Canada and Haiti were the lucky teams to come out first.

Martinique now meet Canada for a place in the semifinals while Haiti face Group C winners Costa Rica.

I know it's on PPV, not sure about the Univision stuff since I don't have that channel.

Fox Sports World is great! They show a lot of the Gold Cup games, except the US games though. They also show EPL, Series A and Argentina games!

The coverage offred to the US soccer fan during the Gold Cup is an absolute bloody travesty.

How can this sport ever grow in tghis countrywhen the audience is denied the opportunity to watch its team ?

This is just about the only true team sport the USA play against other nations, there should be spectacle in that alone.

And I'm not paying $20 for the privelige either

US v Canada

South Korea v. Costa Rica

Canada could be defending their championship. They are just quietly going about their business... just winning.

They play a tough defensive minded brand of football. It should be interesting semi finals. It will be a good test for the US pups. Bruce is turning out to be a real genius.

It looks like Bocanegra, Mastroeni, Beasley & Donovan are all staking claimes to spots on the 23-man roster for South Korea & Japan!!!

Bocanegra and Mastroeni couldn't have come at a better time to fill in an aging and slow defensive back field!

Windsor Casino

I'm going over to Windsor, Canada to watch the match on TSN. I'll save 20 bucks on the pay per view, and probably lose a hundred at the gaming tables. Go figure.

I'll post my game report before I go to work in the morning.

just finish in pasadena: costa rica 3-1 korea

boring first 25 minutes, costa rica marred a PK (medford)
then medford takes a pass from wallace and send the ball over the area for the first score at the minute 37......

in the last 9 minutes 3goals! wanchope shows class and hits the net twice.

the 2nd game started very slow and was no soccer display for 45 minutes, only donovan had traces of soccer. The 2nd half was all for the USA.....canadian keeper keep them into the game and into overtime.
4 Yellow cards, and coulple of subs in both teams, they still going at each other in minute 100
canada same old game: counter attack and good keeper, USA deserves to play vs. costa rica

PKs?

The ice storm kept me home and I didn't find out the score until this afternoon. Que pasa?

What a mess it was today in Detroit. I'd much prefer 20 inches of snow, to this.:yuck:

Wow! Sorry to hear about the bad weather you're having, Doc!

Here in Richmond, it was 84 yesterday and 75 today. Not much of a winter! ;)
