A faithful adaptation of the novel, and so probably a bit slow moving for most tastes. If you've read the book, I think you might like the movie, as you'll be able to fill in those silences for yourself, and pick up on what the movie only suggests.

If you don't know anything about either the book or the movie, I've got two words for you. Chick flick. ;)

The storyline might be just like a chick flick but the cinematography is quite stunning in places so its worth watching IMO. Many of the shots are composed to look like Vermeer's work in regards to the colour, lighting and composition and at the end of many scenes the camera pauses slightly as if it was "revealing" itself in a painting. I didn't think that much of the storyline, but the acting was decent especially from Scarlett Johannson and the camera work is great so if nothing else its *really* nice eye candy :)
