LONDON, January 25 (www.DailySoccer.com)

The leading pack are all expected to pick up victories this weekend although it is arguably Juventus who have the toughest assignment as they travel to Chievo.

At the Delle Alpi earlier in the season the Bianconeri got the fright of their lives as Chievo took a shock 2-0 lead only for Marcello Lippi's side to come back and win thanks to goals from Alessio Tacchinardi, Igor Tudor and Marcelo Salas.

Lippi will be hoping for a repeat result but without the dramatics. Last weekend Juve were convincing 3-0 winners over Atalanta and after months of inconsistency they finally look capable of posing a serious challenge to Roma and Inter.

Significantly their best form has arrived since Pavel Nedved found his new lease of life behind the two strikers. The Czech international is now delivering every week and could yet prove to be the ace up Lippi's sleeve in the remainder of the title race.

Also, as Lippi points out, defensively Juve have markedly improved and are returning to their usual solid selves. To this day, however, it still seems a little strange that the club would spend over ?50 million on Gianluigi Buffon and Lillian Thuram when last season the team had by far the best defence in the league (just 27 goals conceded in 34 games).

Against a Chievo side who look to be on the verge of a downturn in form, Juventus should have too much.

Top plays bottom this weekend at the Pierluigi Penzo stadium as Venezia take on Inter. Hector Cuper's men are fresh from arguably their most impressive performance of the season when beating Parma last weekend. They have so many avenues of attack and once everyone starts firing on all cylinders the results could be devastating. While Christian Vieri and Mohamed Kallon are undoubtedly playing to their true potential but there is certainly more to come from Alvaro Recoba and Sergio Conceicao on the flanks. The latter has only just made his comeback from a long-term injury and by his own admittance needs time to settle in to the team, while the former is starting to show glimpse's of his old self but will need a few more weeks to return to his best after being out for so long due to that passport ban. The centre of midfield is the area that is most impressive about Inter at the moment as they have so many options. Cristiano Zanetti is a regular but who partners him seems to change by the week. Luigi Di Biagio is probably Cuper's first choice but he was suspended last weekend and has had to fill in at the centre-back position in recent times. Francisco Farinos and Emre are the other players who have come in and done an excellent job this season.

Inter will surely have too much for a Venezia side overly reliant on the contribution of 10-goal top scorer Filippo Maniero.

Fabio Capello's Roma take on Piacenza this weekend looking to recover from a below-par performance against Udinese. Without Francesco Totti, the Giallorossi lacked invention and only created a few worthwhile opportunities. Defensively, also, they have not looked secure in recent weeks and the form of Jonathon Zebina will be of some concern to Capello. Against Verona he played a big part in Adrian Mutu's first goal with an indecisive pass, while last weekend he gave away a penalty so rash and cynical that on another day he may have been sent-off. In the Coppa Italia quarter final against Brescia he did receive his marching orders in the first-half of the game which ended any realistic hope that Roma had of getting back into the tie.

Milan play Udinese at the San Siro looking to avoid another slip-up against a relegation threatened team. The reason Milan are off the pace in Serie A is their inability to beat the weaker teams and against an Udinese side who have travelled well this season, they will have another tough task on their hands. Last weekend the Rossoneri were denied three points against Fiorentina by a last-minute equaliser from Adriano.

There is no doubt that Carlo Ancelotti is going through his toughest spell at the club and his situation wasn't helped by a 2-1 defeat to Juventus in the Coppa Italia this week. While there is no question of him being under pressure, Milan are a club that need to be playing Champions League football so anything other than a top-four finish will be hard for Silvio Berlusconi and Co to swallow.

Lazio will look to back-up last week's 5-0 trouncing of Perugia when they travel to improving Torino. Alberto Zaccheroni's men will be without injured striker Hernan Crespo for not only this game but the next few matches as well. Quite what a blow this injury is will become apparent over the next few weeks.

Elsewhere Parma play Bologna and Fiorentina travel to Atalanta.

Parma win derby to move out of relegation zone

Parma win derby to move out of relegation zone

ROME, Jan 26 (Reuters) - Turkey striker Hakan Sukur's first goal for Parma helped them to a 2-1 win over Bologna on Saturday and pushed the club out of the relegation zone.

Suker, who signed from Inter Milan two weeks ago, scored Parma's second and decisive goal to give them real hope of avoiding the drop.

Parma got the perfect start when Italy international Fabio Cannavaro headed goalwards in the sixth minute and Bologna defender Carlo Nervo deflected the ball past goalkeeper Gianluca Pagliuca.

Suker was left alone when the Bologna defence pushed out at a corner eight minutes later and slotted in from close range.

Fabio Pecchia pulled a goal back eight minutes into the second half and that spurred a Bologna fightback.

Parma goalkeeper Sebastien Frey was forced to make fine saves from Julio Cruz, Luigi Della Rocca and Matteo Brighi.

Brazilian defender Junior had a chance to kill the game off for Parma towards the end of the match when he beat the offside trap but hit a tame shot wide with only Pagliuca to beat.

Bologna's Brighi was sent off in injury time after wrestling with Marco Di Vaio when he was the last man but television replays showed the decision was harsh.

The result pushes Parma up into 14th place with 21 points after 20 games, while Bologna are sixth on 31 points.
