MUNICH, Finally, the German Football Federation (DFB) officially announced the clash against Asian giants Iran. A German delegation had visited Iran a week ago, but no eventual agreement had been reached.

Yesterday, the DFB then finally confirmed the friendly match, which will take place in Tehran's 110.000 seater on October 9. The match is supposed to kick off at 20:30 local time.

Furthermore, the Federations of both countries agreed to donate a part of the income to the victims of the terrible earthquake of Bam, Southern Iran. As Germany's teammanager Voeller said, there already were earlier thoughts about playing the recently "strongly improved" Iranian side. But after the catastrophal earthquake, the idea to play Iran was actually born. "We don't only have a sporting, but also a sporting-political responsibility", Voeller was quoted on the Federation's official homepage.

The two teams only met once so far, as Germany was able to defeat Iran by 2-0 at the 1998 World Cup in France. The goals by Oliver Bierhoff and Juergen Klinsmann made Germany qualify for the next stage over Iran.
