Greek international defender Grigoris Georgatos returned to Milan this weekend after an extended stay in Greece to ask Internazionale to release him from his contract.

"I want to leave Inter" the player is reported in the Greek press as asking the Italian giants. The former Olympiakos left back is trying his best to secure a return to the Piraeus team in time for their Champions' League campaign in September. The Italian club is thought to have told the homesick Georgatos to wait for the return of Inter president Massimo Moratti.

Georgatos met Olympiakos president Sokratis Kokkalis on Crete two days before his return to Italy and they are thought to have discussed a proposal for taking the dynamic wing-back on a loan deal.

Georgatos has enjoyed a relatively successful spell in Italy, becoming the fans' favourite at the San Siro with his attacking style. However, the 29-year-old has never adjusted to life away from Greece. The Inter player has used all his spare time to return home and has been a frequent visitor to the Greek champions' Reddy training ground.

Olympiakos would be happy to welcome back the player who finished the 1998-99 season as top scorer, despite being a defender. The only possible stumbling block would be the large transfer fee for a player who has won the plaudits from the Italian sporting press during his spell in Milan.
