Galliani fails in re-election Monday 29 November, 2004

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Adriano Galliani has again failed in his attempt to be re-elected as the President of the Italian Football League.

A fourth election was held on Monday but the Milan Vice-president fell short of the minimum number of votes required.

Galliani, who was expected to successfully retain his position today, collected 21 votes – seven short of those needed.

Although Galliani is the only candidate, he’s not got enough backing from all 42 Serie A and B clubs.

That is because a split has developed as there is an objection to a potential conflict of interests given his role with the Rossoneri.

Club officials will again meet on December 10 but it has been confirmed that no elections will take place on that date.

Potential conflict of interest is the name of the game when the only possible league presidents can only be club presidents or their replacements.

When someone nominates another candidate like Moggi or Sensi again, Galliani will win unanimously like last time against Sensi.
