Beckham could possibly be included in the squad to face France on the 26th March. A squad that should be announced sometime this week.

And Owen feels he could miss out, because him and Newcastle are just plain shit at the moment.

Should be interesting to see how we get on against a world class team.

Its a good oppurtunity to give some young players a chance. Against Switzerland Capello had no real time to gauge his players and what they could give him. He was going off reputations, advice and a handful of games. Since then he's been more active and gone to many games. This is when we'll really see his intentions with England. I'm hoping to see Johnson and Hart join up for some experience, but it may be too soon for Johnson. I'd be disgusted to see Beckham join up though at his expense. It'd also be nice to see Ashley Young get a go from the start.

I agree with TGO, Glen Johnson needs a run out. He has been in great form.

Beckhams situation hasn't changed, he still has little to no fitness and still plays for a mickey mouse league. Why Capello wants to go back to that is... questionnable. Lampard has surely earnt a call up, Woodgate might have a shout for a start... and Sturridge needs a go. We got fvck all forwards, Owen is our best striker and he is going nowhere fast.

Jermaine Defoe is on fire at the moment. And are you serious about giving Sturridge a go? :googly:

Against who? Defoe is proven at international level, proven rubbish.

Who else do we have, Heskey? I'm being fairly tongue in cheek but honestly the cupboard is bare.

I agree we are lacking up front, and apart from Rooney the rest of our forwards are rubbish at the moment i.e. Owen, Crouch, Ashton. - And Defoe has scored 6 in 6 or something so he's the only alternative we have, albeit I don't think he can cut it at International level either.

I would rather give Ashton a call before Defoe, especially in Capello's idea of football.
Ashton is pretty average of late.

Ashton has been crap lately, true. But he got treated like a **** by Curbs, and obviously lost a lot of confidence. His latest game though was pure Ashton with a wonderful first touch to beat his man and a cool finish. Plus a backheel setting up the second goal, great craft. Could be coming back into form.

Ashton and Rooney would be a great pairing.

Anything to get Rooney back in the hole.

true but he fits the model of Capello's football. He can play a part in the build up play and hold the ball up. Capello has never been a fan of playing with fast strikers.

If your thinking Ashton, think Kitson instead ;)
Kitson lacks the football brain of Ashton.

I think Rooney an Ashton would compliment each other well, but I think Capello might go for Rooney as the lead striker and Gerrard in a bit deeper, like he has been playing for Liverpool recently. This would accommodate Lampard as well and in such a way the side has a reasonable balance and the players compliment the positions and what Capello wants. Will be interesting to see how he approaches the midfield, will they relinquish play look to sustain and play on counters or try to control the midfield and drive the game.

Personally I think this match has ll the components to be shite because neither team can play pure football or appreciate the midfield.

Ashton deserves a call up simply because it must be horrible playing with the majority of West Ham players. Give the guy a break :D

The guy quite simply is our most giften 'big man'. Plus he's capable of of coming deep and getting involved in more intricate build up. Because of his injury record the guy has been deprived of call ups. Right now he's fit and available. Take him. As Marc says, we've got zero options at the moment. What harm can it do.

I meant Michael Johnson.

Glen Johnson may be worth a go, he's better than Brown.
I know, just poking you. :pp I don't think he is ready for this level yet, not at all.

Yup.

Arfy - Oh, I think we'll make France look like fantastic world beaters. Assuming Henry doesn't choke the whole team.

Well the french midfield makes me sick when you see the lack of invention in there play. Fair enough they have been more successful with there modern style of football, but its bad on the eye.

What makes it worse is how for years English football tried to imitate the french model, we lack identity and will always until we can recover the style we saw in players of past generations.
