Former Melbourne Knights and now Hertha Berlin defender Josip Simunic has been caught up in a match-fixing scandal that has rocked German football.

The Berlin magistrates court has issued warrants for the arrest of three men connected with the match-fixing scandal.

The three suspects were taken into custody for questioning on Friday.

The trio, reportedly brothers from Croatia, face between six months and 10 years in prison for fraud.

Referee Robert Hoyzer, 25, has admitted to manipulating five matches for financial gain.

Two of the arrested men alleged that three Hertha Berlin players - Alexander Madlung, Angolan Nando Rafael and former Knights championship-winning player Simunic - also were involved in match-rigging.

"I have nothing to do with all of this," Simunic told news agency Agence France-Presse.

He has of course denied it, so we will see what happens in the next few weeks. They have set up an investigation team so I take it the truth will come out.
