Moroccan international and Royal Armed Forces striker Hicham Zerouali was killed in a car crash early this morning near the Témara Zoo in the outskirts of Rabat.

The accident occurred when Zerouali’s car slid off the road and hit a tree.

Hicham Zerouali was born on Jan. 17, 1979. He played with the Junior, the Olympic and the Senior national teams. He started his football career with Wifaq Yaakoub El Mansour, before moving to the Police Union and later to FUS Rabat. He joined the Scottish league side Aberdeen between Dec. 1999 and Jun. 2002. He played in the United Arab Emirates as Al-Nasr’s striker between Jul. 2002 and Jun. 2003.

Last season, he was on the verge of winning the GNF 1 trophy with FAR, but an injury-time goal by Kawkab Marrakech deprived them of the title. Zerouali was compensated in the throne Cup when he managed to lift the trophy in two consecutive seasons. His last achievement with FAR was scoring the two winning goals in yesterday’s match against Kawkab Marrakech.
