Being a rich club is nice, but in the end its all about trophies. And if you can't translate your money into trophies, then your money is worth shit. A club being worth €1000 million or €10000 million doesn't matter, since with either amount of money the club is healthy and if you don't use your money its useless.

I wouldn't mind the list on it's own, but I would like a more detailed explanation as to how the final list was arranged. Particularly since the information given on the site doesn't seem to add up to why certain teams have higher club values than others.

How can aston villa be there?, espically with the amount of money O'Leary has to work with.
Click on th elink and Forbes gives you an explanation. According to the list, AV has no debt, thus their value goes way up.

But the list is terrible, it tries for example to set a "value" for teams based on past transactions or stock market value. But as always, this is wrong. A team like Barcelona or Real Madrid, are invaluables in those terms, as they are not for sale and could never be sold, as it is written in their by-laws. In that case, revenues or operating incomes are a better indicators.

I am sure FCUnited will tell me otherwise.

Its nothing new Man City, Villa, Everton etc being very valuble with a lot of money. The UK economy is considerably better than that of Spain and to a lesser extent Italy. Peoplle in the UK have more money to spend on there team etc. I a no expert on economics but that is how I see things.

Spurs have always had quite a large transfer budget but they have wasted alot of it on crap like Rebrov, Postiga and other crap players and managers. Now Jol is there spending the money wisely on good young players, looking for bargains and using a proper scouting system they are challenging for the CL.

However, big Spanish and Italian clubs have a large advantage over British clubs as TV money is on a club per club basis, in the UK it is shared out equally. If Manchester United had individual TV rights just imagine what there transfer budget would be, they could outbid every club in the game (except Chelsea), so too could Liverpool and Arsenal.

Also on a final point, English clubs have just recovered from the European ban and are now back on parity with Serie A and La Liga. During the bad in the 90's, English clubs were still richer than Serie A and La Liga but could not compete in Europe so fell behind.

Most of the good players purchased by Spurs were because of Frank Arnesen. He's not there anymore so expect Spurs to buy more crap.

You are mostly correct except that La Liga teams can't sell TV per club basis. It is done collectively and the TV revenues are divided up based on final league standing (similar to the Premiership).

You are correct about Series A. Juventus recently sign a TV deal worth $125 mil in 2006/2007 season and $140 mil 2007/2008 season.

Five magics got it spot on, also english fans will pay higher fees. heck birmingham city charged "48 for away fans of Liverpool, man utd, etc last season yet they sold out. This is the level of spensing people do in england, plus when you add up the fact that people also spend on food and stuff it averages £63 per supporter i think i read somewhere. plus english teams use there stadiums as a better resource delloite and touch say, they offer hospitality mettings and corporate events which yield more money.

who gives a toss about it anyway? Football is about playing well and winning matches not about how big is your bloody cheque book.
