La Coruna could be set to make a move for Real Betis forward Finidi George, after learning that striker Roy Makaay would not be fit for the start of the season.
George had been linked with a return to Dutch side Ajax, the side he started his career with and spent three seasons there from 1993 to 96.
Manager Javier Irureta is worried about not having a his leading scorer for the start of La Liga and the Champions League, and so sees Finidi as the ideal replacement.
Coruna have already started negotiations with Betis, who want 1 billion Lira (£3.7 million) for Finidi and a deal could be concluded by the weekend.
Premiership sides Chelsea and Middlesbrough have alos been linked to Finidi in recent months.
