It depends...financially speaking the top 5 Greek Clubs right now are Olympiakos,Panathinaikos,AEK,PAOK and Iraklis.Every one of them is abel to buy a good player (not a Star) no matter the cost. Some do,some dont, some have difficulties to convince the players. But financially all of them can afford a Zamorano or a Paulo Sousa.Olympiakos can of course buy bigger like Ze Elias,Giovanni and Zetteberg...Generally,Greek clubs dont give much to foreighn players. They are the icing of the cake.Usually, they buy from smaller Greek clubs players who do good seasons and breed them to internationals and starters. There are clubs which have a fantastic youth policy like OFI or other clubs which buy cheap foreighners and sell them to bigger clubs. But the 4 big clubs buy from smaller teams or bargain foreighners like Mykland or Sabry.
Don't you think that they should buy some more foreigners with class? The Greek yougnsters could learn a great deal of them and so Greece could make it to the WC and the EC some more.
And if they got the money, why do their future stars leave Greece? ( Georgatos and now Liberopoulos)
Adrian, the biggest local talent stays in Greece. For examble our best forward,Demis Nikolaidis despite being linked with half Europe has stayed at AEK.Very few of the good Greek players go abroad.
As for our national team, that we dont qualify its not a matter of talent. Its a matter of TEAM.We have plenty exelent individuals but we dont have a team spirit and a right coach. This has been going for years. When finally our national players put their acto together, you wont only see us in big events but you will also see great things.Take the WC94 team for examble. It was one of the worst Greek teams ever.BUT they qualyfied...how? somehow the coach at time put them, together and made a team.Of course,at the WC94 we were huliated because there was obvius lack of talent.
