The big party of Portuguese football is happening today and Sporting is once again there. Too bad I can't be there myself but...long live free internet! :D

We have the opportunity to win our 16th Portuguese Cup and finish with a title a season that ranged from disappointment (League) to brilliance (Europa League).

Needless to say that we are favourites against Académica but now we need to prove it on the pitch. Sá Pinto once again sent the right message, asking respect for our opponents but also saying that the only thing that counts about being in a final is to win it.

I believe!...and Chuck Norris too. :howler:

Yes, that seems to be true and probably, or should I say hopefully, the same thing will happen with João Pereira.

1-0 to Académica by Marinho after 4'. Polga seemed to be clearly fouled on the build up for the goal.

You look very prone to the counter attacks, though. As always, JP is too far up the field, Onyewu and Polga are slow as hell, and Insua looks okay. Marinho, Valente, and Edinho are ready to be released on the fast break every time.

That was always going to happen because the bus would always be parked, even more when they saw themselves winning after 4 minutes.

One of Académica's CBs cut the ball with his arm on the floor very close to their box but the ref decided to wave on.

At 45 minutes, Sporting get their first shot on goal with a weak Onyewu header.

Another ridiculous yellow card for Insúa by this sort of referee.

Académica 1-0 SPORTING at HT

It was always going to be a one sided affair with one team attacking and the other parking the bus and playing on the counter. Académica took advantage of a lucky break scoring with a cross to the centre of our box where Polga was absent because he was fouled in the build up of that same attacking move. Sporting accused the blow and in spite of having created some nice moves, mainly through the left side with Capel, Matías and Insúa, we were never incisive enough upfront. Our central midfield is not participating enough in the attacking moments of our game and if we want to win this cup Sá Pinto needs to change that in the second half.

Obviously that a referee like Paulo Batista would always do what he is doing but that unfortunately is something that we always need to be prepared for.

I have liked Schaars on your side. Only player really looking to control the game and even getting forward as well. Matias and Elias are nowhere to be found, while Capel is getting double and triple marked whenever he has the ball. Great tactical work by Pedro Emanuel's side so far.
