Barcelona winger Luis Figo is reported to be interested in a move to Manchester United.

Reports suggest that United will be offered the chance to buy the Portuguese international next week for £8million after the player identified Old Trafford as his preferred destination for next season.

Figo recently extended his contract at the Nou Camp until 2004 but it is believed that a special get-out clause will allow any possible deal to take place.

The 27-year-old winger reportedly earns a massive £55,000 a week with the Catalan giants, which may be a major stumbling block to any transfer despite United’s improved pay structure.

The signing of Figo would allow manager Sir Alex Ferguson to give David Beckham a more central role in midfield, while retaining the quality of service on the flanks now expected by the Old Trafford support.

In my opinion, £8 million is peanut money for a player like Figo. There are total crap players that go for such money. Figo is worth double that amount. Besides, Figo always said he wanted to play in Italy.

Over here they are talking about a Figo - Beckham swap between Man U and Barca. Becks wants his wife to be happy, and playing in Barca would settle Posh and relieve the press attention here in the UK.

But AC Milan are favourites to sign Figo, who are prepared to offer at least £22 million to Barca, and will give Figo double his wages.

If they had to double his wages than he would be earning 110 000 Pounds a week.He would than beat Del Piero which is the highest paid player in the world earning 68000 pounds a week.
