BANGKOK, May 26 (AFP)
Spain's FC Barcelona arrived in Thailand on Sunday for the first ever friendly for a Spanish club side in the "Land of Smiles".
The Catalan giants, led by Dutchmen Patrick Kluivert, Phillip Cocu and Frank De Boer, touched down in Bangkok three days ahead of their Wednesday match against Thai select league side BEC TERO.
A brief and boisterous press conference was held at the team's hotel in the capital of this football-mad kingdom.
Kluivert, who is nursing a sore knee, said he expects to score against the Thai 11, which will be well-stocked with national team members.
"I expect it will be a good game and I hope we can win," defender Michael Reiziger said.
Argentinian striker Javier Saviola, overlooked by his country's national team coach Marcelo Bielsa for the World Cup, is also in Bangkok with "Barca".
But Barcelona, who came away with no titles this season but have won 24 league championships, are short of their normal stable of stars as several are playing for their national squads at the upcoming World Cup.
The "flying Dutchmen" are in tow as Holland failed to qualify for the competition.
The Spanish side is due to hold a football clinic for 30 Thai teenagers on Tuesday ahead of the Wednesday 6:30 pm (1130 GMT) match at Bangkok's Al Rajamangkala stadium.
The club also tried and failed to organise a friendly in China and the players will return home after the match here, team officials said.

VG's first match. Maybe we'll see some of his ideas already. If we lose, VG started off the way he left two years ago....
