Derby County have drawn Sheffield Wednesday in the third round of the FA Cup. The match will be played at Pride Park on January 8, 2008

Sheffield Wednesday are currently 15th in the Championship and their squad includes former Rams Lee Grant, Marcus Tudgay, Deon Burton, Michael Johnson, all Derby legends ;) :D

Well this will do for the match thread as well... :D

I sense nothing more than another embarassment, though I do hope Feilhaber will be given a start finally. And the likes of Beardsley and Holmes maybe given a chance as well.

Well I hear it could be a bumper crowd today, they reckon only around 18,000, and that's with over 5000 Wednesday fans. Oh well, they should still give you cup tickets in your season ticket

The team I'd like to see play, not that there's much choice with all the injuries, but still...

Price

Beardsley - Davis - Nyatanga - Mears

Teale - Feilhaber - Oakley - Holmes

Miller - Fagan

I still love FA cup 3rd round day, even if no-one else does anymore. We've already got nothing to really play for in the league, so a rare good cup run would be great.

Wednesday up 2:0 already, even Derby County legend Marcus Tudgay scored  :pp

I had a feeling we would lose after seeing all the former Rams players in the squad, they have something to prove I guess

2-2 Miller and Barnes :howler:

We've got out of jail first half, can't believe Feilhaber still isn't playing, get him on the bloody pitch, he'll run rings round these donkeys. And get Moore off, he's a liability.

We can win at Hillsbrough, we've done well there recently, it will be the usual half full stadium, and hopefully there will be a few more signings in as well.

We'e number 23 in the 4th round draw.

Nice away trip to Peterborough, Mansfield, Oldham or Huddersfield is what I would like, chance to go to a ground that you won't often get to visit.

But we usually end up with something boring, like a Championship side at home :(

PREVIEW: SHEFF WEDNESDAY v DERBY
Posted on: Mon 14 Jan 2008

A home tie against Preston North End lies in wait for the winners of Tuesday night's FA Cup third round replay at Hillsborough.

For Derby County and Sheffield Wednesday the game is a chance to forget their respective league problems and make progress in the competition.

A month ago, Paul Jewell's side would perhaps have crumbled having gone two goals behind as early as they did in the first encounter.

To their credit they came back strongly and were level before half-time but they didn't finish the job after the break.

Saturday's defeat at home to Wigan was a setback in terms of the Rams' hopes of Premier League survival and it was also a low note in terms of performance.

Derby now need to come back strongly and stamp their authority on proceedings if they are to make progress at Hillsborough.

TEAM NEWS

Derby are down to the bare bones in terms of their squad with a number of players missing for a variety of reasons.

Robbie Savage, Laurent Robert, Hossam Ghaly and Tito Villa are all unavailable as they were not signed in time to take part in the initial game.

Defender Claude Davis is suspended after his red card in the defeat to Wigan, while the Rams have a number of injury concerns.

No Wednesday team news available at the time of writing.

MATCH FACTS

The two teams last met in the FA Cup in 1993, when a replay was again needed after a dramatic 3-3 quarter-final draw at the Baseball Ground.

Interestingly, their first-ever meeting was an FA Cup tie, with the Owls winning 3-2 at Derby way back in January 1891.

It's level overall at 41 wins each in all competitions with a further 32 draws.

Derby have won on five of their last visits to Hillsborough - including last season's stoppage-time success.

THE REFEREE

If the Rams are looking for anything in terms of an omen, the choice of referee won't give them much heart.

Merseyside's Chris Foy has been handed the assignment at Hillsborough - but he hasn't given them much luck this season.

Foy has overseen Derby twice in 2007/08 and on both occasions they have conceded four goals, at Tottenham Hotspur in August and at Manchester United in December.

His season's record stands at 64 yellow cards and two dismissals in 22 games.

Tudgay maybe, Burton's as crap as ever.

There's a possibility it's going to be called off anyway.
