Right then ...After all the Transfer market Bull shit, The season kicks off today. Fergue said we will be using this game to Build the fitness of the players. Hope fully as we did last year we will start off with a Win.

TEAM NEWS

Manchester United

Skipper Gary Neville could lead the team out for only his second competitive appearance since he suffered a serious ankle injury in March 2007. But Ronaldo (ankle), Owen Hargreaves, Ben Foster, Louis Saha and Park Ji-sung (all with knee injuries) are ruled out, and there is a doubt over Rooney. But midfielder Michael Carrick will be back, having recovered from the same virus that laid Rooney low.

"Carrick trained yesterday for the first time and I'm taking him to Wembley," said Ferguson. "Hopefully I'll give him some minutes on the pitch. If he is feeling good then we have to get some minutes on the clock for him ahead of next week against Newcastle."

Rooney is also over the virus now, but only returned to training on Friday after having missed every session since United returned from Africa on 28th July.

"We have a big job to get him ready for Newcastle," said Fergie, "but with seven or eight days training, we may just make it now. He's much better and the medical reports are good.

"Gary Neville and Nani are fit and they will travel,” he continued. “Nani will probably start on Sunday because he is suspended for the first two league games of the season.

"Owen Hargreaves is not ready. He should be OK for Portsmouth away (on Monday 25 August), that's the time frame we've put on it.

"Ben Foster had a bit of swelling in his knee which you can sometimes get after a cruciate knee injury. We're trying to manage that but he's not ready yet to play in games. It's unfortunate for the lad because he was looking forward to an uninterrupted run."

Squad: Van der Sar, Kuszczak, Neville, Brown, R Da Silva, Ferdinand, Vidic, O'Shea, Evans, Evra, Silvestre, F Da Silva, Nani, Carrick, Scholes, Fletcher, Gibson, Possebon, Giggs, Martin, Tevez, Campbell.

Portsmouth

Redknapp could be without midfielders Lassana Diarra (ankle) and Sean Davis (hip), while Glen Little is trying to shake off a thigh injury.

FA Cup final hero Kanu is doubtful with a dead leg, while Sol Campbell is expected to be fit following a virus. David Nugent (groin) is sidelined, with Ben Sahar, on loan from Chelsea, in line to replace him.

Squad: James, Johnson, Campbell, Distin, Hreidarsson, Utaka, Diop, Pedro Mendes, Kranjcar, Crouch, Little, Sahar, Diarra, Defoe, Davis, Kanu, Wilson, Duffy, Lauren, Nugent, Mvuemba, Cranie, Ashdown.

Prediction : 2-1 to United with Tevez and Giggs with the goals.

Looking at injuries at Pompy atm I think you will win comfortably. They are a completly different side with Diarra in the squad.

fletcher is the best player in the world/................. NOT!!!!!
Oh dear Fletcher.

I want to see Raf and Rod in the second half.
You gotta love Portsmouth's hoofball tactics, very inspired.

Tevez has been good as usual.
I want penalties. :D
Is it too early to start bashing Giggs? Ill give him 3 more games.
Haha, what a terrible decision by not giving that penalty. If you can't give that, there is no hope for you.
Ronaldo not there to miss.:smileani:
wohaaaaa
lol one of the post pathetic attempts at winning a penalty shoot out I've ever seen.
champions!!!
everyone grinning as if we´d won the league again.lol
They talk about a respect campaign, but no wonder refs and linemen get berated, when they fail to give the most blatant penalties.

I think everyone played well, but Tevez once again was brilliant. Giggs has been playing really well this pre season, which I'm surprised at.
Giggs ,i thought, was ok. But iam completely in awe of tevez. This is the first pre season game i have watched. Woww brilliant. This season he is going to be a monster.
