This year, Azerbaijan will make debut in the Eurovision song contest. Of course, everybody know that duet of Elnur and Samir with the song "Day after day" will present Azerbaijan.

On 20 of May will be the first semifinal with participation of Azerbaijan. At semifinal stage, we can vote only for that country which will be in our semifinal group. So I will vote for Kalomira from Greece. When he was at Baku, he made a good impression.

But at the final, I will vote for Turkey and Ukraine (if they reach final of course).

Go Elnur/Samir! Go Azerbaijan! :star:

I found this contest as a joke but I'll be supporting Azerbaijan/UK. My favourite part is how countries will vote for each other

WE ARE IN THE FINAL!!! :star:

It seems that ours overdo it, we were too good for the competition :)

Turkey's commentator asked turks which live in Europe to vote for Azerbaijan! Thank you Turkiye!

Three countries which were named firstly as finalists were that countries for whom we voted - Romania, Greece and Bosnia :)

Armenia gave Azerbaijan 2 points in the semi-final lol
Yes, I know. I think they were armenians who used to live in Baku:)

My surprise was 12 points from Hungary?for which reason?and 7 points from Andorra, 8 pts from Macedonia, 10 pts from Czech Republic?

Anyway, Dima Bilan shouldn't had won it. There were far better singers

For achievement a success we must be maximalists. All places from 2 till 43 - defeat. Win is 1 place. For all that, our team worked very good. Apart from two moments (absence of singers at press-conference after semifinal and their absence at the screen when Hungaye gave us first place), in all other respects, Azerbaijan was great! :star: So, thanks for your work!

We watched final in big company - most of all votes were sent for Turkey and Ukraine :) I was very glad, that exactly these two countries received first two places from Azerbaijan.

I was that day in Czech Republic (since Austria does not participate anymore) and sent about 80 sms :) That's why there should not be any questions about Czech Republic :)
In Hungary our compatriots worked good as well, whereas 8 points from Macedonia are closely related with Gyoko Hadjievski :)

Loool :howler: I imagined Hadjievski sitting in front of the TV and sporadically sending text messages :D

Well, there are many reason why we did not get any points from UK and France, whilst Germany gave us only one point. The two most important ones: 1.) Hungary, in comparison to UK, did not participate in the final (they could not qualify), therefore, among Hungarians there was practically no interest in this song contest. 2.) Hungary is probably the only country in Eastern Europe, who does not have strong allies. They do not have good relations neither with the Serbs nor with the Balkan states. Their population is totally independent and does not vote for a specific country. 3.) UK is a multicultural country - I cannot even imagine the number of nations who have watched this Song Contest last week in UK. And even if 6000 Azeris voted as much as they could, it would not be enough. Look, even Armenia did not get any points from the UK, although I am sure there are a lot of them as well.
Therefore, the most essential thing is not the number of compatriots in a country, but the ratio of spectators and countries which they make up. For the next year we should forget about getting points from UK, Germany or France - instead we should concentrate on such tiny countries like Andorra, San Marino or Montenegro, because from them you also might get 12 points, but it is much easier and comfortable :)

OK,then how come Andorra gave us 6 points? don't tell me they are multicultural or lots of Azeris live there or they don't have allies.

Well, I have hear from close people that a few Azerbaijani students from Spain decided to go to Andorra that day, understanding that the interest in this contest in Spain would be much greater than in Andorra. But it is equally possible that some people (not our countrymen) really enjoyed our performance. For instance, the UK gave 10 points to Latvia and I cannot believe that there are so many Latvians in England, Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales..

Guys, I'm not a Eurovision fan, I actually think this contest is nothing short of a complete travesty. And if there is one thing I know about this contest, is the fact that the quality of the song is only 5% and 95% is how big your diaspora is.

But one thing I found very funny is the fact that Azerbaijan was the ONLY country of the former-USSR that didn't give 12 points to Bilan :howler: We stood into their faces :D I say "good job" Azerbaijan! However, even 8 points seems a bit too much for that stupid Bilan.

P.S. My favorite joke I heard from my friend is that to the next Eurovision Russia will send Nadezhda Kadysheva and Russian bobsled team :howler:

Quidam, I totally agree with you. I personally stopped respecting this song contest after the year 2004 in Istanbul, when such a magnificent song from Germany finished just 8th.
Today in order to get high places you either ought to have a strong diaspora or dress your female artist in an outfit which is as short as possible. Nevertheless, we must admit that no other event (except maybe football World Cup) is annually viewed by more than 100 million people from all over the world, therefore Azerbaijan, as a quite unknown country, has no other choice than using this song contest as an advertising method..
