The draw took place earlier today CET, and Switzerland were put into Group 10 with;

Ireland
Russia
Switzerland
Georgia
Albania

n.b - teams listed from top to bottom according to the seedings (i.e which pot they were put into), so therefore, Switzerland was seeded in pot 3

On the surface, this may seem like a reasonably easy group for the Swiss, especially since they avoided to avoid the big guns, France, Italy and Spain(an awesome team in qualifications) from group 1, and the likes of Holland. Denmark and Poland from pot 2, but none of these teams looks especially easy :nervous:

Ireland had a great WC campaign, and progressing from a group containing Holland and Portugal is a big achievement. Russia are traditionally strong, and while unpredictable, they seem to have adapted well by now to the breakup of the Soviet Union. Georgia are not the strongest team going around, but did put up a decent showing in their WC qualifying group containing Italy, Romania and Hungary, and bottom seeds Albania are probably the WORST team you could have got from that group after they beat Greece and scared England in the WC qualifications

Overall, this seems like a very even group, and if they play well enough, the Swiss should be in with a good chance of finishing in the top2. They should theoretically at least finish 3rd (as their seeding suggests), but anything seems possible in this group :cool: :excited:

Too bad about Austria though :nasty: :D :sigh:

Russia is the favourite in this group, with Ireland being second favourite. Nevertheless, both teams are within Switzerlands reach, while Albania is the most underrated team in Europe these days.

If Switzerland mobilise their potential, they can win this group.

And yes Andreas, no problem for Austria...:D

A rather unattractive group. Albania and Georgia aren't as easy as they look like. Russia is strong.
But after all there are good chances to reach the EC, but the team has to play better than in the WC-Qualification...

I am fairly happy about the group, but at the same time I'm not going to get the champagne out just yet. It does appear to be a fairly even group. None of these teams should be taken lightly, there is no guaranteed victory. If Switzerland finally lives up to it's potential, the 2nd place is more than realistic. The key is winning the home games (hopefully they can finally do that:mad: )
