If Fifa want more interesting world cups they should ensure that Brazil and Argentina have European managers. Those south american managers are wank.

It was to be expected in a European World Cup, despite the fact that the South Americans travelled in greater numbers than the nearby Euros :howler: I felt a lot of the South American sides regressed since 2014, especially Colombia. Uruguay are Uruguay but I also thought they were much better in 2014. Peru were nice to watch but a bit too 'headless chickens' for me and bound to get overly emotional in their first WC. Usually there is one South American side to fail in the groups and this time it was them (like Ecuador in 2014, costly loss to a middling Euro side :p)

CONCACAF very much regressed but that was to be expected too, Costa Rica were in a tough group + its essentially the same side as 4 years ago while Panama are too weak to compete at this level. Mexico did their usual, though they have themselves to blame for not winning the group but before the tournament 90% of the people expected 6 points in the group then elimination to the hands of Brazil

Last chance fo Urguay to win a WC! ... 2022 dem gonna b a 3rd rate team
Definitely. Their peak golden generation was 2014 with Forlan and all those boys. Now we are seeing the last of that generation(Suarez, Godin, Cavani) but after them it will be a massive struggle.

Like in 2006, 1982, 1966 and 1934.
Otherwise, in 1930, there was a only european country (the only time).

And the first without Italy, Argentina, Brazil, Germany and Uruguay (at least 2 won cups).

Otherwise :
France, 6th semi-final (1958, 1982, 1986, 1998, 2006 and 2018).
Belgium, 2nd (1986, 2018)
England, 3th (1966, 1990, 2018)
Croatia, once (1998) or three with Yugoslavia (1930 and 1962)
Russia, once with the Soviet Union (1966)

Missing James was a huge blow for Colombia as was missing Cavani for Uruguay. These guys are game changers. Peru has itself to blame though.

Yeah there's the James and Cavani injuries (especially tough for Uruguay, who are dependent on four individuals + order and grit, and Cavani was their best player this tournament), and also three South American teams were essentially eliminated by the same team -- France, arguably the most solid team in the tournament, eliminated Peru, Argentina, and Uruguay one after the other.

Then there's the fact that Colombia lost in penalties, Brazil was extremely unlucky. Peru was always going to be a long shot as first-timers for that generation, and it was a tough group comparatively. And Argentina was pure shit. Still, they all gave everyone a strong fight, none went out easily.

Nothing to complain, all teams went out fairly, but mostly because of small details, bad luck, etc.

Not to mention, in Brazil 2014 several South American teams were eliminated by other South American teams.

So obviously European national teams are doing better, but some context shows it's not such a big difference.
