If Srna drops to RB it makes the 4-4-2 more amendable to a 4-3-3 if needed.

Rakitic.....Modric.....Vukojevic......Kranjcar

..................Petric
........................Klasnic

Vukojevic....Modric......Kranjcar

3-5-2 sort of

--------------Pletikosa------------

-------------- Kovac-----
-------Simunic---------Corluka--
------------------Vukojevic--------
-------------Modric-------------
-----Srna------------------Pranjic
-----------Kranjcar------

----------------Petric-----
-------------------Budan-----

I think Orkan suggested something like this before and I sorta fancied it.
I like having Rakitic come off the bench for offence. It also forces Pranjic and Srna out wind somewhat(but not so far back), so they would get a chance to open up those sides and send some crosses in. Thus also allowing to Kranjcar stay in the center of the park, since he plays better in the middle of the park anyway. I also don't like it when Modric has to do lots of running,I think its gonna tire him out too fast. So i'm hoping Vukojevic behind him will do all more chasing ,along with Pranjic/Srna to the sides of Modric.
I hope this will force Corluka to stay home more and protect the rear flank.

If i was coaching i would go for a 4-5-1/4-4-1-1 whatever way you look at it:

----------------Pletikosa

Corluka----Simunic----Knezevic----Pranjic

-----------------Kovac

Srna-------------Modric-----------Kranjcar

-----------------------Rakitic

------------Petric

We've been looking for a spot for Rakitic, and now one has opened up, this is the perfect time for him to step in.

4-4-2

--------------Pletikosa------------

Srna----Corluka----Simunic---Pranjic

Rakitic---Modric----N.Kovac--Kranjcar

---------Petric ----Budan-----------

The first formation would be to start things off.

&

4-3-3

--------------Pletikosa------------

Čorluka----Knežević----Simunic---Pranjic

Srna-----Modric-------Kranjcar

---------------Rakitic--------------

-----------Petric---Budan------

The second of the formations would be if we are loosing late in the game and we need to play catch up, its risky but something that can get us the goals we need.

Pletikosa
Srna - Knezevic - Simunic - Pranjic
Corluka - Vukojevic
Modric
Rakitic - Petric - Kranjcar

That would be in dream land, but it's a wonderful attacking formation, yet played with two DM's, Corluka would be like in Tudor 2006, but better :D.

I'm against any formation that explicitly uses a lone attacker. A lot of you have Petrić as the lone man up front and he simply isn't suited to that role. He can potentially play behind a guy like Budan or even Kalinić because he does his best work 25-30 metres from goal. At the moment the closest thing we'll get to a 1 and 1 combo is Budan playing slightly ahead of Petrić.

Agree. I'm also against having both Kranjcar and Rakitic playing together on opposite wings. Neither is exceptionally quick and both prefer to cut in. I imagine this would congest things a fair bit.

As for formations I'm happy with Bilic's current 4-4-2 and 4-3-3 variation depending on whom we play. Likewise I also agree with the philosophy that in some instances, player selection should be based on who our opponents are. After all, we've got 14-15 players that are all capable of starting provided they're well prepared.
