Montella moves clear at summit
Monday, 24 January 2005
Vincenzo Montella ended holder Thierry Henry's run at the top of the ESM Golden Shoe standings with his winner for AS Roma at ACF Fiorentina on Sunday.
Eto'o closing
While Henry has not scored in five games for Arsenal FC, Montella's eighth Serie A goal in seven matches took him two points clear, and Samuel Eto'o is not far behind after his early effort for FC Barcelona against Real Racing Club Santander.
Bubbling under
Also moving up the rankings are Crystal Palace FC's Andrew Johnson, whose fine form continued with a goal against Tottenham Hotspur FC, and Ricardo Oliveira, up 27 places to joint 24th after registering twice for Real Betis Balompié at home to CD Numancia.
