Crystal Palace are in desperate need of a victory as Aston Villa travel to Selhurst Park.

The relegation threatened Eagles have not won since October - despite playing some very good football in between.

Villa have not lost to Palace in over ten years, but they have only won once in their last seven so victory is by no means assured.

Eagles boss Iain Dowie will check on the fitness of on-loan defender Gonzalo Sorondo - who missed Palace's 3-1 loss at Fulham with a hamstring strain.

Both Nicola Ventola and Tommy Black are sidelined with long-term injuries, but Joonas Kolkka could overcome his rib injury to feature.

Emmerson Boyce could also be recalled in place of Danny Butterfield.

Aston Villa captain Olof Mellberg is suspended and leaves manager David O'Leary with few options.

Mark Delaney will return to partner youngster Liam Ridgewell, with Martin Laursen still sidelined.

Carlton Cole and Thomas Hitzlsperger are still out, meaning Luke Moore may get another chance to partner Juan Pablo Angel in attack.

Skysports.com prediction: 1-1
Injury-plagued Villa should have enough to seal a share of the spoils.

Great first half. Palace is leading 1-0 after a goal by Johnson. The goal came after a long shot, which Sørensen had to give a rebound on, which AJ cooly executed. We nearly went 2-0 up just before half time, but AJ had slightly touched the ball with one of his hands before the goal, and it was correctly annulled.

Both teams had decent chances, but I think the lead is well deserved. Hopefully we can hang in there.

A great second half as well, and Palace now has a well deserved 2-0 lead just before the end of the match. AJ scord the second goal, after Palace got a fair penalty.

Wayne Routledge has been outstanding today. The really big clubs will be knocking on our door soon.

A good game today, had a couple of pints in the pub before hand which always helps;)
The first half was pretty even, the defence was a bit shaky, Danny B looked a little off the pace and big Powelly was playing his first league game (for Palace ) of the season. We stuck at it though, AJ got the goal ( it looked like he was dedicating it to the Villa fans ;) )and we finished the half just on top.

The second half was great. Wayne and Vas Lakis pulled Villa apart with some excellent wing play. Wayne seemed to go around his marker at will and had a fantastic run and cross to set up Lakis who was fouled for the pen.
There was a more than decent shout for another pen not long afterwards when Lakis dribbled into the box, tricked a defender who then seemed to handle the ball as Vas was about to shoot :nono:

Good to finally get another win under our belts at last.

Palace: Kiraly ,Butterfield (Boyce ,75 ) ,Powell ,Hall ,Granville ,Routledge ,Watson (Leigertwood ,66 ) ,Riihilahti ,Hughes ,Lakis ,Johnson
Subs not used: Speroni,Freedman,Shipperley

Good outing. At least were out of the bottom three :)

What puzzles me is why Boyce had been left out these games. Has he been injured?

Squad rotation innit;)
Seriously, during the Utd game Boyce looked absoluley [email protected]#ked. I think Dowie decided he needed a rest and Butterfield was fit again, so he made the change.
It wouldn't surprise me if he rests Danny B now, he's played in all of the holiday games. No point in pushing him too far too fast:)
The future doesn't look too rosy for Toni Popovic though, not even on the bench today after the stinker he had against Fulham( don't think he's injured).

The bookings for Hughes and Granville are their 5th of the season and they'll miss the next league game away at Man City :moan:

Ex-bluenose git!

But Palace chants for him are cool! The little two year old Palace fan was dancing around in her mum's arms, waving her fists around when the music for his goals came on! And she was so happy when she shock Peter and Alice's (the ducks for her) hands!

If he signed for Villa tomorrow you'd love him

That's why we've got to make the most of him while we can :depress: :frownani:

I think a lot of teams would be happy if they signed AJ, hes a great goalscorer definitely got a bright future infront of him.

Is it me or doesn't he sort of looks like Beckham, sort of sounds like him to. No disrespect to AJ meant of course.

It's true :howler: but that's cool, just as long as he doesn't marry a talentless conniving bint like VB :smileani:

It appears that a certain UK tabloid newspaper has some photo's of our man in ,shall we say, an intoxicated state following a night out with Chelsea and 'Boro players :drunk:

Here's the pics, great shot of the top of AJ's shiny head, looks like he could grow a super Bobby Charlton comb over if he let it get long enough
Respect to Dowie for his words of wisdom :howler: AJ
