Roma would be interesting. I believe the last time we met them in Europe was the 1991 UEFA Cup final.

The most intriguing would be Inter v Man U though, due to the size of the clubs and our ex Man U trio. It would be a CL tie in EL. We do have an awful record against them though, losing in 98-99 and 2008-2009 (in CL), but those Man U sides were better than the current Man U side.

But for last 16 I would want a relatively 'easier' team so hopefully Basel/Copenhagen/Rangers

Spanish clashes for both Inter and Roma
By Football Italia staff

Two ties between Spanish and Italian teams in the last 16 of the Europa League, as Inter are drawn Getafe and Roma will be up against Sevilla.
A tough fixture in the Europa League round of 16 await Roma, who are drawn against five-time winners Sevilla.
Sevilla were helped by an away goal against Cluj in the round of 32, as they went through with a 1-1 on aggregate after having drawn 0-0 at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan.
The Giallorossi will travel to Sevilla for the first leg against the side currently placed fourth in La Liga, whilst Inter are welcoming Getafe to the Giuseppe Meazza for their first leg against another team among the top six in Spain.
Getafe arrive after a surprise win against Ajax in the last round, when their 2-0 win from the Coliseum Alfonso Perez was enough to help them win 3-2 on aggregate after the match in Amsterdam last night.
The first leg will be played on March 12, with the return leg scheduled a week later on March 19.

Would have preferred playing away first.

Zanetti: 'Getafe to be respected'

By Football Italia staff

Inter director Javier Zanetti says La Liga outfit Getafe are to be “respected” ahead of their Europa League Round of 16 clashes.
The Nerazzurri beat Bulgarian outfit Ludogrets to qualify for the Round of 16.
In today’s draw, Inter were paired together with Getafe, and it’s the first the two clubs will ever come together.
“Getafe are a tricky team, we will prepare as we do for every game,” Zanetti told Inter’s official TV channel following the conclusion of the draw.
“There is no precedent between us and them, but we respect them a lot: they’re fifth in La liga. I think it will take a lot of concentration.
“They concede few goals, and they are very physical. We need to be careful.”
Inter played against Ludogrets in an empty San Siro due to the Coronavirus spreading in northern Italy, and Zanetti states that it made the game more difficult.
“It wasn’t a simple game yesterday, even for everything that occurred outside the game itself. The team approached the match very well, the lads who played less showed that they care about being important.”

I'm pretty sure Inter will try their best in order to get out of the competition. Above all now that their schedule are filled with serie A postponed games.
Fingers crossed, yeah.

At this rate Atalanta will overtake us in 3rd place soon.

By the way Toni: What are your thoughts on the importance of the Coppa Italia generally, as a competition? How important do you think it is for the 'average' calcio fan?

The importance Lega Calcio and the same clubs give to it nowadays: 5 games in order to win it, schedules which are modified according to the needs, maybe one month between the two legs of the semifinals, lineups filled with "the players who deserve to play more often but don't"...
The calcio fans who care more are the ones of Juventus because of the Triplete. They are also the ones who care the least for scudetto and can feel depressed in spite of winning scudetto+coppa Italia without winning the CL.
Surely it was a competition with a different appeal back in the 80s, when a team had to play 13 games in order to win it.

We need to take Getafe seriously.

Or else Getafe will make us GTFO.

Amirite?

Of course they must be taken seriously. They are in the top 4 in a top league, it's not a fluke either as they were top 4 in La Liga last season til the closing stages when Valencia overtook them. They knocked out Ajax, and in fact hit the goalframe 3 times in Amsterdam. They have some interesting players like Mata-Molina upfront and the guy with a big head of hair Cucurella, on the left. A player I would be happy to see at Inter.

Feck Serie A, we are almost guaranteed top 4/CL football next season in it anyhow. And we were robbed of enough points this season that would have made us top, so I am not too concerned with it now. I have 0 belief we can win it this season.

Dismissing EL for an impossible target like winning Serie A would be silly. Hopefully Lazio go on and win it.
