Especially today he was so terrible.
(I'm writing this thread after 3-4 loss to At.madrid)
I have always thought he's not a Barcelona quality.
And after watching today's game, which was so important to us,
I got really mad and shocked at Gudjohnsen's terrible performance again.
I usually don't like to blame just one player for a defeat,
but today is an exception. I really don't want to see Gudjohnsen in Camp Nou next year.
Barcelona scored 3 goals tonight,
but the 1st one came from Henry's personal genius,
the 2nd one came from Messi's personal genius,
and the 3rd one came from a brilliant pass from Eto'o, not from midfielders.
All three goals came from 3 offenders, without support from central midfield.
It's completely different from our usual way of scoring.
Midfielders did nothing and just offenders' personal talents earned some goals.
Our midfielders were terrible today, mainly because of Gudjohnsen.
If you watched the game carefully, you can see this:
Gudjohnsen's off the ball ability was so terrible.
When we're attacking, Gudjohnsen is standing in an awkward area.
Every time an Atletico midfielder is blocking the pass route to Gudjohnsen.
Other our players cannot pass to him. It's like playing 10-men football.
Moreover, he sometimes stands aside to other players meaninglessly,
which means a total duplication and inefficiency in attacking.
These things explain why Messi couldn't even touch the ball often today;
Atletico defenders knew that the only possible pass route to Messi was from Xavi or Alves.
No pass could come from the other central midfielder Gudjohnsen.
So they just concentrated blocking passes from Xavi and Alves,
and they sucessfully isolated Messi (except for the 2nd goal.)
In defending Gudjohnsen is terrible as well.
We could see Toure or Xavi blocking enemy's passes.
But I couldn't see Gudjohnsen blocking passes or tackling enemy players well.
So Aguero, Simao, or Forlan got the through passes very easily.
And he didn't get back fast, so enemy players got a second chance so often.
What Gudjohnsen did in defending was basically just watching from the front.
Who does he think he is?? KAKA? RONALDO? or MESSI???
He's not a world-class attacking midfielder who are exempted from defending!!!
I know that he contributed Henry's second goal, but that's not we expect from a central midfielder. (And by the way he also showed terrible scoring ability again, when he blew off wonderful pass from Xavi in the first half.)
Our football style seeks a midfielder with pinpoint passing and brilliant sight, and Gudjohnsen have nothing.
Then he scores a lot? HELL NO. Then he defends well? NOOOOO.
He's just useless. :doh::doh::doh::doh:
If Gudjohnsen is a young player from the youth, I won't blame him so harshly.
But he's more than 30 years old, with a small possibility of further development.
And I believe his weekly salary is more than 65,000 pounds.
That's too much money for a second-rate player like him.
I believe the Barcelona board should sell him next summer.
We have given enough chances to prove himself, and he always failed.
