Beenhakker keeps faith with Poles

Wednesday, 7 March 2007
by Pawel Dimow
from Warsaw

Poland coach Leo Beenhakker has named a 24-man squad for the UEFA EURO 2008™ Group A qualifiers against Azerbaijan, in Warsaw on 24 March, and Armenia four days later in Kielce.

Eight reserves
The Dutchman has resisted the temptation to call new names into a group featuring nine players from Poland's Ekstraklasa, including four from Wisla Kraków. Beenhakker has opted to put eight players on stand-by, however, with uncapped 29-year-old forward Mariusz Ujek from league leaders GKS Bełchatów heading a list that also comprises Łukasz Fabiński, Marcin Baszczyński, Arkadiusz Głowacki, Jakub Wawrzyniak, Maciej Iwański, Bartłomiej Grzelak, Rafał Grzelak. Poland are third in Group A, one point behind leaders Finland.

Poland squad
Goalkeepers: Artur Boruc (Celtic FC), Tomasz Kuszczak (Manchester United FC), Wojciech Kowalewski (FC Spartak Moskva).

Defenders: Michał Żewłakow (Olympiacos CFP), Jacek Bąk (Al-Ryyan Club), Dariusz Dudka (Wisła Kraków), Marcin Wasilewski (RSC Anderlecht), Grzegorz Bronowicki (Legia Warszawa), Adam Kokoszka (Wisła Kraków), Paweł Golański (Korona Kielce), Arkadiusz Radomski (FK Austria Wien).

Midfielders: Radosław Sobolewski (Wisła Kraków), Mariusz Lewandowski (FC Shakhtar Donetsk), Euzebiusz Smolarek (BV Borussia Dortmund), Jacek Krzynówek (VfL Wolfsburg), Jakub Błaszczykowski (Wisła Kraków), Łukasz Garguła (GKS Bełchatów), Przemysław Kaźmierczak (Boavista FC), Rafał Murawski (Lech Poznań), Wojciech Łobodziński (Zagłębie Lubin).

Forwards: Maciej Żurawski (Celtic FC), Radosław Matusiak (US Città di Palermo), Grzegorz Rasiak (Southampton FC), Ireneusz Jeleń (AJ Auxerre).

Armenia have named a 24-man squad for the UEFA EURO 2008™ qualifier against Poland on 28 March, but coach Ian Porterfield will miss the match as he recovers from surgery.

Aleksanyan absent
The 61-year-old Scot picked the squad for the game but will leave the preparations to his assistants Armen Gyulbudaghyants and Vardan Minasyan as he continues his recovery from an operation to remove an intestinal tumour in Yerevan on 7 March. Armenia, who have one point from four Group A qualifiers, are almost at full strength, with CSF Zimbru Chisinau defensive midfielder Karen Aleksanyan the only notable absentee.

Armenia squad

so if it says were at full strength, does that mean all these guys accepted the invitation then?
the way it sounds is as though everyones accepted, but i bet it doesn't mean that, but then again i don't see why any of these players will reject the invitation (Zebelyan, Karamyan sorted out now i guess). Any mess ups will come down to last minute injuries or visa problems.

i don't think anyone's gonna get injured now. except i'm a little worried about khachatryan cuz he said he has a bit of an ache in his last interview. i dont think edo will get injured no more we havent seen him injured since the finland match, so i think he's past that. visa problems is whats scaring the shit out of me

i think the reason Manu hasn't been injured since the Finland match is because he's hardly played for the Ajax main team. Now it looks like he might play some more as Leonardo is injured and I heard that De Mul is injured as well and I've got this bad feeling he's gonna get injured just before the Poland match. As for Khachatryan, if he doesn't play and if Manu doesn't play either, then thats it, probably no goals for us i think.

First of all Poland can not create a problems related to the visas because this is qualifier match.
Be optimists about the injuries, till 15 days we must not have any injured player.and in my opinion we will win this important match and we will dedicate it to MR.PORTERFIELD.
