I wonder if the players knew zauri was down.

Anyway, situations like these should be avoided. I know it's technically allowed to play until the whistle, this is a special case when the offside system is being intered with. This can't continue to happen, it makes no sense. Either a rule has to be made, the ref has to be alert and use his own intuition in the situation, or the opposing team has to fair play it. None of these 3 scenarios happened and a stupid goal was scored.

If the Italian defenders knew Zauri was down though I guess we could say shame on them but the point is this situation isn't a reasonable one and is one where an adjustment is necessary....
I think they should just do what they do in rugby. Where the physio comes onto the pitch as play continues, it's not like they can't play around him if they're playing round an injured player anyway.

also, i'm interested to hear if anyone has read comments/reactions from the Lyon side, manager or players, on the controversial goal.

so far i only read Piquionne regretting 2 drop points but nothing was said about his controversial goal.
Because this idiot together with UEFA managers thinks that everything was as it should be :(

--------------------------------------
“There's nothing to say about the goal because it was the referee's decision,” spokesman William Gaillard insisted.

“We tell the players clearly that they don't have to put the ball out if they see an opponent on the ground.

“It's not a question of fair play, but it's just so that we avoid too many interruptions. The referee is the only one who can stop play.

“If the official didn't believe Zauri's injury was serious then there is nothing to question.”

This attitude sucks deeply. I know that money counts but if these kind of things happen more often in CL then .... :frustrat:

Now, If i search your forum histories, will I find that you defended Mutu's goal (you know what goal!) with the same words?

PS: I know they're not equivalent, in Mutu's case the guy had just fallen, but still ... :)

yeah Mutu's goal was against Palermo and we said that it is legal as well as Lyon goal BUT regarding our goal, palermo's player was injuryed so far away from their goalkeeper & it was very obvious for the ref but he didn't stop the game and above all of that he fell down alone not because of any of our players.

Yeah, I guess there is huge difference made by the fact that Zauri was down for several minutes, plus his presence next to the net made it easier for them to score as it caused no offside situation.

To be fair, i've seen the replay...Zauri seemed to pop his head up to see what's going on. Was he in that dire need of attention or was he down to slow the game?

What the French players did was aweful, they wouldn't have known what condition he was in and thus should have blasted it out. My beef is with Zauri himself, stay on your feet.
