Dutch sides in the CL/EL 2018/19

How many sides will still be competing come September? that's the question.

Ajax have gone crazy and spent 16m euros on Daley Blind and almost 11,5m on Dusan Tadic in order to not embarrass themselves in Europe again like last season.

Vitesse made their transfers pretty early. That's a change to previous seasons.

AZ haven't done that much when it comes to incoming transfers. No replacement yet for Wout Weghorst, while Jahanbaksh is surely on his way out. Fred Friday will probably be given a second chance until another striker is found.

First round of games for Dutch sides is next week.

Wednesday July 25 is the Second qualifying round of the CL. Ajax then face Sturm Graz

The Second Qualifying Round in the EL on Thursday July 26 sees:

Vitesse play Viitorul Constanta. Bradley de Nooijer, son of Dennis, plays there and Hagi is their manager.

AZ face FC Kairat in Alma Ata in the South Eastern corner of Kazakhstan. Andrei Arshavin plys his trade there.

Feyenoord are seeded and enter the tournament in the Third Qualifying Round (9 and 16 august)

Vitesse went through on aggregate 5-3 over Viitorul to advance to the 3rd Qualifying round but AZ got bounced by Kairat 3-2 on aggregate. WTH is Kairat?

Kazakhstan. Wow. That's embarrassing.

AS Trencin beat Gornik Zabrze 5-1 on aggregate to book their spot opposite Feyenoord in the 3rd Qualifying Round. Joey Sleegers started in midfield for Trencin.

Yeah, Astana and Kairat seem to be competitive at this level.
I didn't see much of the second leg so don't really know how it went.

Vitesse now meet FC Basel (Thursday 8pm) who sacked their manager after big pre-season losses and a poor opening two games into the start of the Swiss league. Marcel Koller has replaced Raphael Wicky there.

Ajax meet Standard Liege in the CL next Tuesday at 8pm after comfortably getting by Sturm Graz. Andre Onana did mess up for Graz's consolation goal :D but all in all, Ajax cruised through that tie. Standard Liege should be a different kettle of fish under Michel Preud'homme. Well looking forward to that one.

Good win by Ajax albeit against a nowadays weakened Dynamo Kiev

PSV cruised past BATE Borisov as expected.

Draw for Ajax in the CL is Bayern, Benfica and AEK Athens. Not terrible. Chance to get 2nd or 3rd spot if things go well.

PSV´s draw is horrid, yet fun nonetheless: Barcelona, Spurs and Inter.
