Duff set to be offered new contract - 22/05/2002

Blackburn Rovers have once again insisted that Damien Duff is not for sale and have also revealed that they want to open negotiations about a new contract this summer.

The winger is expected to be one of the stars of the World Cup and Premiership side Liverpool are known to have had the player watched on a number of occasions.

Blackburn boss Graeme Souness said: "I've seen the speculation surrounding Damien and we have not received any bid. "In fact, we hope to start talking about a new contract during the summer."

Duff has always said he is happy at Blackburn Rovers and sees no reason to leave. However, many observers suspect that Blackburn would not be able to reject a major offer from one of Europe's bigger clubs.

Duff is the second Ireland player to be linked with a move in as many days as the speculation kicks in about the futures of some of Ireland's stars.
