Sartid bid for European place

Thursday 4th April 2002

Sartid Smederevo continue their bid for a Uefa Cup place against lowly Zvezdara Belgrade this weekend.

A win for Sartid could see them go above Obilic into third place and defender Dragan Paunovic is aware that a good display is required.

"We must produce our best form if we are to defeat Zvezdara," he said. "Then we will be able to say that we are really capable of accomplishing the biggest success in the club's history - qualification for the Uefa Cup."

Partizan Belgrade will be looking to bounce back from their shock defeat at the hands of Zeta Golubovci as well as avenge their elimination from the Yugoslav Cup when they meet Zeleznik Belgrade.

Partizan go into the tie without influential skipper Sasa Ilic, who was sent off against Zeta.

Red Star Belgrade striker Dragan Bogavac has admitted he is desperate to get on the scoresheet when his team visit Sutjeska Niksic.

"I want to score in Niksic, if the coach picks me, because it is my native land and that way I will show that I am a real Red Star player," he said.

Milan Belic will miss Vojvodina Novi Sad's mid-table battle with OFK Belgrade through suspension but OFK coach Dragoljub Bekvalac will be in the dugout despite being sent off last weekend.

Obilic entertain a Rad Belgrade side for whom a number of players are still recovering from a bout of food poisoning.

Obilic boss Milan Zivadinovic could experiment with some untried youngsters while it is unclear how many of the nine Rad players who were struck down last week will be fit to play.

Elsewhere, Hajduk Kula face a potentially tricky away trip to Rudar Pljevlje, Mladost Lucani play host to Zeta Golubovci and FK Zemun face bottom club Mladost Apatin.

Zvezdara Belgrade 0 Sartid Smederevo 3

Friday 5th April 2002

Sartid Smederevo continued their push for a Uefa Cup place with a 3-0 win at Zvezdara Belgrade on Friday in front of a measly 1,000 fans.

Sartid dominated possession from the outset and Radivoje Panic opened the scoring with 30 minutes gone.

Zvezdara struggled to break out of their own half and Sartid wasted a number of good chances to extend their lead before half-time.

The second period followed a similar pattern to the first with the visitors well on top. Just three minutes in, Nenad Mirosavljevic made it 2-0 to all but seal victory.

Zvezdara did manage to venture forward as Sartid took their foot off the pedal but Djordje Zafirovic and Dejan Zivkovic both squandered goalscoring chances.

With just seconds remaining Mirosavljevic grabbed his second of the game to seal a convincing win and keep up the pressure on Obilic for a place in next season's Uefa Cup.

can somebody tell more about this club and its players ?
it's a little surprising improvement for this club isn't it ?
is it a growing talent or a sign of the decline of the yugo league ?
