Prolog
Prologue

Feeling that Bert van Marwijk was not making sufficient progress in his quest to turn Borussia Dortmund into championship contenders again, president Reinhard Rauball decided to show the Dutchman the door. In van Marwijk's place, he appointed relatively unknown manager Tim. This was to the annoyance of many of the supporters, who craved a proven manager with experience and success.

Yet Tim wanted to assure everyone that his heart was in the right place and that he had the determination necessary to transform Dortmund into a success. His plan was to only only eclipse Matthias Sammer's league title but to emulate and surpass Ottmar Hitzfeld. The legendary manager had won consecutive titles in 1995 and 1996 and followed this success with the Champions League trophy and Intercontinental Cup in 1997.

Of course, nothing is clear. The path to glory could be straightforward... or bumpy. The journey might lead to success... or failure. The final destination may be Dortmund... or somewhere else. We'll find out soon enough. After all, that's what the story is for, isn't it?

...and so my journey begins with Borussia Dortmund. The first day will be like any other first day, of course. I will analyze the squad and the staff and decide where improvements are necessary and where improvements are possible. Reinhard Rauball informed me that the board would like us to attain a respectable mid-table position this season, and of course we want to use any success this season as a springboard for prosperity in the coming years. Let's get started...

Yeah, he's already got some nice attributes. We've already got several attacking midfielders but you can never have enough. :D

With all five of our available non-EU player spots already taken, I freed up three of them by releasing Issa Issa and Thiago from Dortmund II, as well as Kosi Saka from Dortmund 19s. None of them had looked very promising.

It seems the parts of the team that need the most attention at the moment are the left defense, where there is only Dede and possibly Kringe; the central defense, where there is only Metzelder, aging Wörns, and uninspiring Brzenska; and the left wing, where there is really only Buckley and maybe Gambino.

Possible targets include Pavel Mares and Ian Harte for the left defense; Nicolas Burdisso, Tomas Hübschman, and Andre Ooijer for the central defense; and Kily Gonzelez and John de Jong for the left wing. The transfer buget is at €14 million.
